"Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) announced Tuesday he will not pursue the presidency in 2012, depriving the GOP of a young, telegenic and potentially strong candidate who had been encouraged to run by some senior Republicans."

Sen. Thune won't run for president - The Hill's Blog Briefing Room

This is what happens when the media spends too much time in Washington (and NYC). Seriously, do you know anyone, anyone at all, who thought John Thune was the "it" guy for 2012? I heard he was the Republican Machine's choice but no one else seemed very enthusiastic about him. It was sort of like when people in the media got all excited about Bloomberg possibly running. Get out of NYC and see if everyone else was really as excited as the NY located media. The media = bubble boys.

Thune does not have the name recognition outside of the Midwest. I like him but he is not charismatic enough to win a primary. IMO, this was a good decision on his part.

The mere fact that his supporters fired Daschle is heartwarming.

It is best for S. Dakota that he keep his Senate senority rather than making a run for POTUS.

Christie & Thune quit because they don't have a chance to beat Obama. Nobody runs for office if they know they are going to lose.

RealClearPolitics - Latest Election Polls

Palin, no chance.

Romney, no chance. Even Ann Coulter admitted that at CPAC.

Huckabee, maybe, but I doubt it.

Pawlenty, maybe, but he has awareness issues right now.

To quit one must announce he/she intends to run. Thune made such an announcement in 2010. Christie never did and has denied he has any wish to run in 2012; therefore, he didn't quit.

He quit on the high profile Republicans that were begging him to run. He knew he didn't have a chance to win.

He was never running, never said he would, always said he would not. That is not quitting on anyone. He is busy in New Jersey trying to balance a budget and fighting corrupt public sector unions.

Sure he quit on them. Coulter said at CPAC that she wanted Christie to run and others have came out and said the same thing. You think he would pass up running for POTUS if he thought he could actually run? Please. And spare me with this crap. What are you pdghquest's wife?
