He is simply the best candidate out there. As an independent voter, everyone on the GOP side scares me. I've not heard a convincing argument from any of the Republican candidates as to why they should be put in control of the country. Also look on their record: since taking control of the House in Congress, Republicans have paralyzed our political system and caused our economy to plummet. Republicans are also largely responsible for the mess we are now in. We all know it started under Bush with their help. Why put the same people who drove us into the ditch back in control?

All the Republican candidates have a fatal flaw in my opinion:

I cannot support Perry because he believes in the anti-American idea of secession and the illegal dissolution of the United States. Bachmann is bat***** crazy and veritably unstable. Palin is a publicity/cash seeking reality star like Snooki who can't be taken seriously. Ron Paul is a perennial loser who is simply unelectable. Gingrich is a serial husband whose time has long passed. Romney is as plastic as they come, too artificial for my taste. Herman Cain has nothing to offer but entertainment to the teabaggers who use him as a token. Rick Santorum has too many psychological issues going on to be President including his obsession with homosexuality. Oh and did I forget anyone?

Anyways, Obama is the only reasonable choice out there. America has no choice but to re-elect him.

Dems and reps put on a show of bickering to hide their secret money dealings behind the scenes. If you notice, they both end up doing the same things in the end, despite their arguments to the contrary.

Ron Paul is the only one who seems truly independent, and not tied to special interests and back door deals. Why do you say he's unelectable? Because the media has not hyped him enough to invigorate the masses toward him? There's a reason for that - going back to the first paragraph of my post.

Sounds like you have given up on America.
Ron Paul is the only hope we have.

Ron Paul has no chance because he's running as a Republican. Republicans are too religious and pro-war for him to win the nomination.

It's as simple as that.

He's not religious or pro-war at all. Sadly, Americans vote for the party and not the candidate. You however, as an independent, should not be subject to the lemming mentality.

Edit: sorry I don't know if you are independent. Confused you for the OP.

But why vote for someone who you know simply cannot win under the current political system in the country? Ron Paul is to Republicans what Ralph Nader was to Democrats.
