Obama's pathetic showing in the Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma and West Virginia primaries with less than 60% of the vote from his own party shows he will have an uphill battle for re-election.
Sean Trende, writing in Realclearpolitics.com, notes that the only presidents who have "received less than 60 percent of the vote in any primary were: Taft '12, Coolidge '24, Hoover '32, Johnson '68, Ford '76, Carter '80 and Bush '92." All but Coolidge were defeated for re-election.

He has lost a good portion of the Catholic vote with his war on religion. His support among the younger voters is slipping due to their high unemployment numbers. His phoney GOP war on women has backfired and his war on capitalism will cost him Wall St votes and money. He has abandoned the middle class working man in favor of treehuggers. The Keystone pipeline in one example, killing coal is another.

President Obama isn't going to win Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, or West Virginia in the general election. He didn't win them in 2008 either.

Between the states you mentioned they have 25 electoral votes, simply put they are not worth the time, effort or money to be concerned about.

Now what's you point, REALLY?

Also aside from older White men President Obama enjoys considerable support.

In Presidential Election, Age Is a Factor Only Among Whites

If you read my post: 6 out of 7 prior presidents running for re-election lost if they could not carry over 60% in their own party primary in ANY state.

If they don't win the state in the general election, who cares?

Again President Obama didn't those states in 2008 and he's not going to win them in 2012 and he DOESN'T NEED THEM. He proved that in 2008.

We are talking about people in some of the most racist and conservative parts of America.

News flash, President Obama doesn't poll well with people who are poorly educated, extremely conservative or racist.

That is not surprising in the slightest. Below is an image from Wikipedia.

As you can see those areas had been going against Obama long before 2012. I imagine part of it is a longer term shift in the Democratic party as it becomes more of a coastal/great lakes/southwest party and less of an upper south party. With that said almost all of those states still have strong state Democratic parties and many Democrats who are stuck in the Democratic party of the 1990s.

It is not a portent for the actual election nor an indication of his support outside the upper South. Truisms about elections are only good until they aren't if they held true always Missouri would have voted for Obama since they traditionally always backed the winner.

There`s no such thing as "the Catholic vote" and never has been.

What you are showing is a map of how many republicans are in these states. How does that matter in a DEMOCRAT primary?

There is only a Catholic vote when Obama is carrying it.

We know Obama doesn't need those states. You said it twice.
Notwithstanding, 6 out of 7 prior presidents running for re-election lost if they could not carry over 60% in their own party primary in ANY state.

You are probably the only person on C-D that really gives a damn about Democratic primaries in states where nobody with shred of intelligence expects President Obama to win in the general election.
