Sorry to let facts get in the way of ideology, but for everyone but the hardcore "Obummer is an uppity muslim socialist Kenyan" crowd, Obama scores more than twice as high as Romney on every "likeability" index measured.

Gallup: Obama Has Big Likability Edge Over Romney
Nearly twice as many say Obama, rather than Romney, is more likable

You've the the facts all right. The pollsters say President Obama is a lot more likeable than Mitt Romney. It is Obama's policies and philosophies and cynicism that are revolting. Aside from those, he's plenty likeable. However, "likeable" ranks pretty far below "understands the role of individual initiative in American history," "appreciates the free enterprise system," and "believes in equal treatment under the law."

While it's not what the OP's about, I understand what you're saying. But no disagreement re: your 3rd point, though there's no evidence the "alternative" would differ much from maintaining those same security policies of at least two previous presidents... especially when he already makes no bones about his willingness to bomb Iran!

Although I doubt there are many of us "lib-ruls" who would dispute the importance of your first two points... only that we've come to regard the current incarnation of this so-called "free enterprise system" as basically a "stacked deck" now, with the "1%" as proof (among others). And though both candidates may be bought and paid for by said "1%", we figure the current guy will at least try to make the "appearance" of some movement on this issue. Meanwhile the 'other guy' has made it abundantly clear where he's coming from...

Thank you for that post. We differ on interpretation, no doubt, but I sense there is common ground. The biggest problem I have with the current guy is the predeliction for running a larger fraction of the GDP through the government budget, where economics doesn't matter and what people want to vote for with their dollars doesn't count. And "targeted tax credits" which are a poor substitute for sound tax policy. We lose our money and our freedoms in the tax code, unless we are importers of rum or owners of NASCAR tracks or some other special friend of those who auction off favors for campaign contributions.

The leap of faith for me is to think the contender will work for smaller government. Otherwise, it will just be a different batch of cronies getting paid.

Back to the OP, I don't like the guy we have any more. I had all the respect and admiration in the world for him on Day One, but it is pretty much gone. His achievement in getting elected will stand among the ages...and that's about it, for me.

Why would anybody like a self-absorbed elitist snob who is out of touch with the "little guy"?

Do you mean the snob that asked a group of Iowa farmers if they had been to Whole Foods lately and seen the price of arrugula?

The thing is, if most polls clearly show Obama's "likeability" by a 2-1 ratio over Romney, then how "representative" are folks like you.... of anything (besides the extremist "base")?!

Since some folks would say this describes both our candidates, it's probably a wash.
