Back in 2010, Wisconsin's First District Congressman Paul Ryan was pushing for alternative solutions to the nation's debt problem, garnering praise from President Obama for putting forth a "serious," "legitmate" proposal to save our critical health and retirement security programs for current and future generations. The President went out of his way to commend Ryan for his proposal, calling it genuine, detailed and a legitimate plan to tackle our fiscal crisis. President Obama spoke at the GOP Retreat in Baltimore earlier today, and discussed entitlement reform and additional budget challenges with Ryan.
He's certainly changed his tune now that he's about to lose, hasn't he?
Changed his tune how? Going from politely disagreeing w/ it to outright calling it awful? If that's the new tune, then most Republicans are whistling along with Obama...

He very clearly said there were parts of it he agreed with, was this the parts where granny was thrown off the cliff?

Regardless of what the parts he agreed with were, the part he didn't agree w/ was Ryan's plan for Medicare.
And this speech was before the CBO analyzed the plan and found that it would create an even larger deficit than we were on track for. But let me guess... "the CBO is Liberal..."
There were parts in it that many people agreed with. After all, most ideas were copied from the Bowels-Simpson plan, which Ryan voted to kill. For example there was the proposal to lower corporate tax while eliminating loop-holes, which is something the B-S plan also called for and what Obama himself has been pushing for. It is very unfortunate that there are so many things they actually agreed upon, but the GOP chose to oppose, just for the sake of opposing. They are the opposing party, so they feel it is their duty to oppose. Of course the Ryan plan would tip the scales so that medicare would bear an unreasonable share of the cuts, while other areas like the military would survive practically without a scratch. It is a copy of an unpartisan plan, which was tweaked by removing common ground, and adding partisan twist. Increasing the hit on medicare, while lessening the hit on defence spending is a good example of such tweaks. It was designed to fail, and it is a perfect example of a political approach which is doomed to fail.
