" One obvious example is the party's new attitude toward Israel. A sobering Gallup poll from last March asked: "Are your sympathies more with the Israelis or more with the Palestinians?" Barely 53% of Democrats chose Israel, the sole liberal democracy in the region. By contrast, an overwhelming 78% of Republicans sympathized with Israel."
This is a stupid question, that forces Americans to pick favorites. As a country that values the freedom and autonomy of all people, why should our "sympathies" be with Israel alone? The Palestinians have greivances too, and the Zionist ideology of Israelis is as morally questionable as the "Manifest Destiny" of the USA in the last 1800s. There is no question that Israel has at times oppressed the Palestinians. Personally, I don't want to take sides, and I want them to get along.
If Adelson is a right wing Lakud loving Zionist ideologue, fine. He is entitled to that opinion, and frankly, I am glad people like him don't lead Democrats around by the nose.
Are we surprised that a well-known extremist, who makes his money from sinful businesses ... would speak-out? He refused to support Romney during the primaries because Romney wasn't extreme enough for him. But once Romney agreed to change his views and adopt the extremist platform ... the money flowed. Adelson is acustomed to buying whores.
