I posted yesterday that a talking point emerging on the Right is, "Well, Americans voted to keep the status quo". Here is the argument:

The "reasoning" (you use the term loosely when talking about Republicans) is that, by returning Obama to the WH, and also preserving the GOP House, voters signaled they WANT four more years of recalcitrance and gridlock. So, that's what we'll give them!

And isn't it just too bad? Cuz OUR candidate, Romney, was the AGENT OF CHANGE. But, since you dummies failed to appreciate his brilliance, well... You deserve what you get!

Meanwhile, let's start a Rubio 2016 Super PAC, and we'll see you at the next debt ceiling fight!

The messangers yesterday were Boehner (in his first post-election release), and George Will. Here is another article today, advancing this meme, this one from the Orange Co (CA) Register:

Editorial: Status quo prevails in Washington | second, obama, term - Opinion - The Orange County Register

This is a blatantly obvious, self-serving attempt by the GOP to Pre-emptively spin the election results to knee-cap Obama 2 before he's off the starting blocks.

My message to the GOP- we're ON TO YOUR BS! And it WON'T WORK!

You've seen the "hope", GOP- Now, get ready for the CHANGE!

status quo: the existing state or condition.

By definition, voting to keep the status quo is exactly what America did. Absolutely nothing changed in Washington except for the names of a very few people. We still have a Democrat controlled Senate, a Republican controlled House, and President Obama. Exactly what change do you expect to see in the foreseeable future?

President Obama gave absolutely no indication that he plans to do anything different in the next 4 years than he did in his first 4 years. Status Quo.

Harry Reid will still be blocking House bills from making it to the floor of the Senate, and Republicans in the Senate are still going to be filibustering every piece of legislation that they don't agree with, and possibly some that they do agree with, just to make a point. Considering that the Rs and Ds are so divided, this means pretty much every piece of legislation is going to be blocked. Status Quo.

The Republican controlled House, where the legislators have at least attempted to cooperate with each other, will still be stifled and vilified because of Reid's unwillingness to place any of their bills to a vote. Status Quo.

I posted before the election that the only way to break the gridlock in Washington is to start replacing every incumbent. It is still the only way to break the gridlock, but for the next 2 years we're stuck with the exact same power balance that we had before the election, so we'll be in the exact same situation 2 years from now.

Is it possible that the Dems and Reps currently in Washington can figure out how to work together? Yes. And if they want to keep their positions they need to do so. However, I don't think it's very likely that cooperation will suddenly become the norm in Washington considering the current crop of Senators and Representatives.

change? what change?

sooner or later the makers will stop paying into the system where the takers steal from the makers, then your system of change will be screwed. you wont be able to steal enough from the makers to pay for what the takers want.

LMAO...what a joke.

The GOP wastes time on pointless inquiries into BS and endless hearings on ways to embarrass democrats and the president, and as far as the issues they deliberately present bills that are impossible to pass and then fold their hands and complain that the other side is not 'cooperating'.

Please follow this link to the vote records for the U.S. House of Representatives, do some brief research, and come back to the thread once you realize that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents in the House are voting on legislation, and not voting as a party block.

Once you do that, feel free to come back and tell me that the House isn't attempting to work together, even though I've given you a link to the proof that they are.

You couldn't expect the right-wing to admit, "Obama won and the Democrats increased their numbers in the Senate -- signalling that the American people soundly rejected our proposed policies."

No, they make excuses why they lost. Look forward to countless threads explaining odd reasons why Republicans lost, for reasons other than the people don't like GOP policies.
