Let's face it folks...all the candidates are lacking in something, either scruples, honesty, viability, clean campaign funding (the list is long). Except for former Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy (1 Republican and 1 Democrat) I cannot say I have gotten excited about any since then. They are either swimming in scandals of one sort or another or they are just boring and have no zip to offer The American People in a time when we need hope the most. I really thought that Fred Thompson was going to be the one but he came in like a lion and is going out like a lamb. Opinions?????

I think there are several viable candidates. I can't compare now to Dwight and Kennedy as it was before my time however I think Regan was a wonderful president.

I wasn't old enough to vote for either Ike or JFK, but I don't think I ever really went to the polls in a presidential election and said, "yes, I want this person to be president."

I have in local elections, but from the time I could vote until this election, I've had to weigh, measure, and consider carefully how I'd vote.

In this election, I haven't gotten excited about any of the candidates on either side.

I agree about Ronald Reagan...left him out in the start of this thread as I wanted to have 1 Rep and 1 Dem as I did not wish to present myself as biased to either party. I am and have always voted my conscience and never gotten hooked up with either party.

I have always voted my conscience too, however the person that earned my vote, in national elections, has always been in the same party.

Well, I was a Nixon baby, and in my lifetime, there's been only one person who, in my mind, has served the presidency well: Reagan. Not even Reagan was perfect, but he towers over any other occupant of the Oval Office since his time, and arguably as far back as Kennedy.

As for this time out, there's Ron Paul ... who's as viable as the voters will allow him to become. The party machinery and the media certianly don't want him to become viable, but that doesn't mean he can't be. It just means a little extra hard work and a more steep uphill battle.

I felt strongly that John Kerry would have been a good President, and campaigned tirelessly for him in 2004.... Sigh... Oh well. Believe it or not, Mitt Romney is looking better and better, expecially after his speech the other night about his religion, etc. That took some scruples. Barack Obama is an eloquent speaker, and that is refreshing in a politician in my opinion (especially after hearing the moron we currently have in the White House babble along incoherently for all these years OMG!). MIke Huckabee is a phony, Joe Biden is intelligent but unelectable, heck I just don't know!

I am a registered Republican, but am not at all party-loyal. Heck, I voted for Ronald Regan twice, then voted for that guy who ran against Bush 1 (can't even remember his name! Oh yea, Dukakis!), then voted for Clinton twice. I guess I really just want someone who can speak well and is not an embarressment to our country, you know what I mean? Bush is such an embarrassment, and a failure.. I fear for my children's future if we get another administration like this one..

Sounds like there is a lot of sentiment about Ron Paul...guess I'll have to do some research on him
