If you grew up during the cold war, you probably enjoyed exactly the type of democratic socialist policies Sanders is talking about. Public education, cheap college education, social security, medicare etc etc. Most people really support these New Deal-type policies and Sanders is the New Dealer we need. Enough of the crony capitalism. Yes to free enterprise and a strong social safety net.
I seem to think that people think Democratic socialism is a gateway drug to Communism. I don't think it is at all AND it is mostly New Dealish. The only problem is we have Goldwater like conservatives, even libertarians who think it is nothing good at all and sucking off the gubmint's teet.
As was evidenced last night, Hillary and Bernie have very similar goals. Hillary actually could establish the beginning of a meaningful, methodical and eventually successful strategy to accomplish them. Bernie offers a method that could have NO chance of getting started.
I have the modest opinion of a non-USAmerican that he is the only candidate that is proposing the changes that the US needs.
The others seem to be in a wonderland like the US had no problems to solve!

That's the rhetoric that was used by Al Smith against FDR in the '32 nomination as well. Thank goodness the people chose the the visionary FDR and not the corporate "pragmatist" Al Smith. We need real, meaningful change. And you do that by negotiating from the ideal situation like FDR and not from an already compromised position.
Without getting big money out of politics, we will just slide further towards plutocracy, which is not democracy and not what so many men and women died to defend.
"Yes, we can" has been replaced by "No, we can't" under Hillary. That's not how people get energized to vote in the general election.

But here's the thing, presidents left, right and center can't bring about sweeping change especially when the thing that you are going to change is Washington, DC. It just isn't going to happen outside of a parliamentary form of government where one party or in coalition with a like minded party sweep into office.
Unless some unforeseen cataclysmic change in the Congress happens Bernie is going to be a one man band talking to himself in the corners of the White House and at 74 (god forbid) that I should have some serious concerns about his longevity.
So let's say that you are right and Sanders is the only candidate "proposing" the changes the country needs. Proposals are wonderful things, if you can get them passed and with Bernie I have my doubts.
