A former U.S. senator who was backed by John McCain, First Lady Laura Bush, and the Republican Senatorial Committee in 2006 now says he's considering voting for Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama.

Former Senator Lincoln Chafee (R-Rhode Island) tells the Providence Journal that he may vote for Senator Obama (D-Illinois) in Rhode Island's Democratic primary on March 4. Chafee, who left the GOP last summer, credits Obama for opposing the Iraq War from the outset -- as Chafee himself did.

Chafee ripped for considering throwing his support behind Obama (OneNewsNow.com) (http://www.onenewsnow.com/Election2008/Default.aspx?id=66958 - broken link)

I can relate. I was a Republican straight through to 2004. By then, I'd had a gutful of Bush and his continual lies and foul-ups. I now look forward to voting for Obama.

No suprise. Chafee should have run as a dem in 2004 and he'd still be a senator. He was the only Senate Republican to oppose the congressional resolution in 2002 authorizing bush to attack Iraq. He refused to vote for bush in 2004 election and instead wrote in the senior bush.
Add Colin Powell to the repub list that may vote dem. Although, Powell admits to crossing party lines in the past.

Chafee is an open borders liberal, who is upset McCain said he would seal the borders (but still allow 180 million new immigrants to chain migrate into the USA anyway).

That is no surprised he likes Obama. He is another liberal "Republican".

Obama would be devastating to the USA, thanks to his incompetence, lack of experience, and because Obama doesn't stand for anything... BUT he would be wonderful for the GOP after the end of his term, as the USA would be in such chaos that the GOP would get the next guy elected in a heartbeat, not to mention keeping control of Congress.
