Not only that, but these Conservative-lite types never win anyway. Democrats and independents (former Dem voters) are not going to cross-over and vote for a Republican no matter what. It's not about the candidate, but more so what the establishment represents. That much was obvious after Mitt Romney's last run as a moderate. The GOP is going to have to go full conservative with either Trump or Cruz and test the "silent majority" allegation that they've been claiming. Atleast with either Cruz or Trump, you can justify the nomination, plus increase your chances of winning by testing the theory; but with Kasich, like you said he becomes a "system nominee" and a guaranteed loss.
