Sanders believes the Democratic party has drifted too far to the right in recent years (due in large part to the first Clinton and the Third Way) and abandoned the constituency that needs it most—the working class. It makes little sense for him to put his effort into fundraising for an organization whose disastrous 2014 plan for electing more Democrats under DWS was “distance yourself from Obama and his achievements.” Until the Democrats stop trying to imitate the Republicans, until they stop drifting rightward to counter them, and until they stop throwing the working class under the bus with trade agreements and corporatism, its not his party. Sanders knows he doesn’t belong in the current Democratic Party, but this election is a referendum on the future Democratic Party—will it be a centrist, corporatist, neoliberal organ of the wealthy, or will it be a democratic, representative, social, progressive party of the people?
You transform a party by being a part of it not an opportunist visitor. That is the issue being raised by this thread. Sanders expects help from a Party that derides yet deigns not to join? This is the complaint? Seriously!?!

Does Sanders require an invitation from the DNC to donate to down ballot progressive candidates?

So in respose to the Daily Kos, I offer this from the Washington Post

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...76b_story.html
Bernie Sanders is the true blue progressive Democrat.

The others in the party by and large are corporatists--they are the opportunists, gaining at our expense.

Bernie's going to help return the Democratic Party to the common people it's supposed to represent.

I suppose not everyone's going to agree about how to accomplish this.

Helping to fund progressive congressmen and women would be a great way to start.

Right now - he could care less about the democratic party.

You misspelled democrat, as is the only time that the world democrat should be capitalized is when it is used as a proper noun. Sanders is very clear that he is an "independent" running for the Democratic Party nomination and therein lies one of my problems with Sanders.

At this point I can only say that you have no idea who or what the Democratic Party represents which isn't unusual for bernie come latelies.

I think that you have mistaken the history of the Democratic Party for that of the Eugene Debs' Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has always been a broad based coalition representing the interest of Americans, be they bankers or beggars.

It is interesting that some folks throw "corporatist" around like it is synonym for pedophile, so this may come as a shock to you but until "socialist" figure out a way abolish capitalism and supplant it with a workable economic solution, corporatist will be a pretty vital part of the political and economic landscape. But if you believe that capitalist are your mortal enemy, then take a cue from Don Corleone, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

See you at the barricades

PS - that was an allusion to the 1871.

Last I saw, the numbers were up to $32 million raised by Hillary to help down ticket candidates, while Bernie sputtered out an excuse about how his focus was on winning the presidency while continuing to raise exactly zero to help people who are supposedly his fellow Democrats.

Apparently helping down ticket candidates doesn't make that list of "serious issues" he's willing to discuss or put any effort in to. I guess with magical unicorn thinking, you just assume a whole slate of progressive congressional reps and Senators will be voted into office to pass all of your proposals? Like those millions of people standing outside of the Capitol are going to be what gets Republicans to vote for your plans too.

Kind of like a health insurance proposal where you claim you are going to save more on Rx meds than is actually spent on them.

I know, math is hard.

I don't happen to think that Hillary views are mutually exclusive.. In reality I don't think Bernie follower's believe it will be like a "Magic Wand" ability either.

BUT~~~ What Bernie's supporters wish to happen is a ground swell of voter's to HOLD Congress in Federal as well as STATE Legislatures to govern in ways that support REGULAR tax payers..NOT to cater to the donor/elitists..and force taxpayers to fund their austerity/lack of pension/HC coverages/Sick time coverage/ability to hire/fire at will without due cause etc...

What Bernie is inspiring is ala Union demands of the early years going back to even prior to 19th Century..however there's a better record of workers fighting with their employers..and there was almost if not a revolution between draconian rule by employers/bosses and their workers..Unions grew exponentially from that point.

Over the years..it was NOT about just PAY but safety of the work environment that fuelled the worker's demands...yikes this goes back to early 20th Century..fast forward..Government has systematically devalued and made laws to cut out Union strength..and as of today..mostly if not all GOP Governors have passed laws that actually castrated most Union advances made over a Century ( Wisconsin recall of Gov. alone gives perfect example)

Having said all that..It appears the Citizenry in general is sick and tired ( both sides) with Politics and $$ buying power in Government ..So completely voting for anybody who isn't part of such tomfoolery!! SO yep..Trump/Cruz/Kasich/Bernie ALL fit within that profile.. Problem is Trump is a CLOWN..Cruz is someone who is a Theologue on GOP side..and since GOP has painted and hounded Clintons for 35 years..She too seems tainted in the general Electorate..

BERNIE has been in the Congress for decades..has worked ( caucused with Dem's mostly) but also has worked with Republicans and did compromise..when some of his demands were obtained...That WAS how Congress normally worked pre-2009..since then Compromise deemed by GOP a word non-existenLOL..Pay for..Majority meant nothing..needs SUPER Majority in Senate for everything since then..House got handcuffed by Tea Pots with like 25 members on GOP side..and eventually leads to retirement of House Leader Boehner in 2015...His retirement spoke volumes to me..because watched him skirt..repeat talking points with sarcasm and inability to keep straight face..as I am OLD..so have watch John B. for along time..How he was forced to herd Cats since 2010 became apparent..and finally threw in the towel!!

Bernie is surely someone out for the PEOPLE..has never gotten rich, even tho in Congress for decades ( unlike so many others)..and knows each and every one of them..and knows who will work ( honestly) across the isle and who just plays the game..He is not in this for himself..BUT to finally ignite what he has always wished for others..and NOW has been accepted by the populous.. Call him Independent, Liberal, Socialist..He doesn't CARE..ALL he wants is Fairness for the "REGULAR PEOPLE"!! This is what people are seeing and believe in..Revolution Yes..BUT not like "American Revolution of 1765-1783" which was Civil War!!
