Nice try but Lyndon Johnson and Harry Truman were elected in their own right. Al Gore also won the popular vote and would've followed a Democratic president without blatant cheating on Bush's part.

Nope. The 21st century has already shown itself to be very different from the 20th, which was radically different from the 19th.
Your example is too old to have any meaningful connection to today's events. And for a fact, this is the second election that has multiple firsts in it. The 2008 election was the first time the U.S. could have had a female Vice President, a female President, or a black President, no matter how it was decided.
This election has a complete political outsider who has never held any govt. position, nor any party position, nor any military position in his life vs. a female.
And this century isn't even 20 years old yet.
Your example came from a time when females weren't even allowed to vote, much less run for office. It's way too much of a stretch to be pertinent now.

When you were gleefully casting a vote for Obama in 2008, you didn't let anyone tell you that no black man has ever been elected as POTUS since the beginning of times. . . . . . 1856 is very recent in comparison. To quote your another favorite, Jesse Jackson, "Keep the Hope Alive!"

Dating back 60 years only once has a party won 3 straight terms. (Reagan 80, 84, Bush 88) In every other election following 2+ terms (1952, 1960, 1968, 1976, 1992, 2000, 2008) the other party won.

I LOL'ed... Too bad Gore couldn't win his home state of Tennessee... he was the first candidate to fail to do that since McGovern in 1972. He also lost WV... a state that had voted Democratic in 5 of the last 6 elections.
Bush is also the first Republican in American history to win the presidency without winning Vermont or Illinois, the second Republican to win the presidency without winning California (Garfield in 1880 the first) or Pennsylvania (Nixon in 1968 was the first), and the only winning Republican not to receive any electoral votes from California (Garfield received one vote in 1880). Bush also lost in Connecticut, the state of his birth.
