Trump is not doing better than Romney did.

I'd forgotten their campaign is headquartered in SLC, but it does make sense in more ways then one.

The Libertarian ticket is incredibly thought out this year. Johnson can get the libertarian vote and pull some conservatives and Weld can pull a lot of moderates. Johnson is breaking 20% with independents and Hispanics. He's been in 2nd place in 3 key demographics, independents (beating Hillary), Hispanics (beating Trump), and African Americans (beating Trump).
I wouldn't count to much on that. 3rd party candidates traditionally over poll before elections. He polled at 8-9 percent last election and ended up with 1. My guess is he might up with 2 or 3 this election at best.

He really isn't though.

This may have been in the works for some time. If Gary Johnson can take Utah, he may be able to either win outright, or come in 2nd in a large number of western and New England states. Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Colorado and Minnesota would be my picks if I had to bet, in that order. A Romney endorsement would probably secure Utah since they think of that man as the messiah over there.
Utah is a possibility, Maine, Wyoming and Alaska

but after that it is bleak.

It's debatable.

2012 GOP Primary Season
Romney - 52.1% of popular vote - 42 contests won - 10.0 million popular votes

2016 GOP Primary Season
Trump - 44.4% of popular vote - 40 contests won - 13.6 million popular votes

Just wait for someone to point out he got a historic number of votes and he vanquished 16 different opponents . Let's also not forget that before Cruz and Kasich dropped out he had only secured 38 percent of the vote. Overall the myth of Trumps massive strength with the GOP base is just that, a myth. A lot of people obviously like him but a greater number can't stand him.

Trump did that with what was a zero percent chance of winning while Romney was the favorite from the beginning.

Though they still will not be a huge factor, they will get a hell of a lot more than 2% this time around. Though I do not agree with many of their views and goals, I do think they are a party to start considering seriously . Not now but in the future.

Utah may be uniquely positioned to change the outcome of its general election.

Clearly, Utah hates Trump. I mean, the hapless Ted Cruz got 69.1% of the vote. The hopeless Kasich got 16.8% of the vote. Mr. Trump came in dead last at just 14%, with less than 25,000 votes. So 86% of the UT Republican voters didn't want anything to do with Trump. . . . despite the fact that it is traditionally a very Red State.

In my view, Gary Johnson is not going to carry Utah no matter what. While he will likely take votes from both candidates, he will unquestionably take away more Trump votes, because of their seemingly intense dislike of him, Romney's possible endorsement, etc. Then again, people there don't like Hillary either. So ultimately, there will be a lot of no shows, and the winner of the state will prevail with just a plurality of around 35% or less.

Nobody cares. Voters don't care what Romney says or thinks. He was an artificial, opportunist candidate wannabe in 2008 and, like Dole, relentlessly tried again in 2012.

Alex Jones had Gary Johnson on his show once or twice, and he said the other week that Johnson was "creepy."

Weld is a gun grabber who doesn't understand the 2nd Amendment.
