Why is there a sticky for the DNC convention, but not for the opposing party? I think I know the answer to this question.

The answer is that a sticky is sticky as long as it is active and topical. The RNC convention was a week before the DNC convention and unstuck about a week before the DNC post will be unstuck.

The RNC thread was closed but the DNC thread was not closed. Just like in the media, there is favoritism. It's ok, we are so used to it.

It was closed a week after the convention ended, when the discussion about the RNC had pretty much fizzled out to nothing, and people were starting to post about the DNC in the RNC thread. I imagine that if people start posting cat food recipes in the DNC thread a week after it ends, because nobody has anything left to say anymore about the DNC, that one will be closed too. Whatever it is you think you see, you ain't really seeing.
