Pence did well despite all the lies. Throwing Don under the bus was a good move.
He understands electoral politics and knows Trump can not possibly win.
He is setting himself up for the future, either as a future candidate or back to his previous work as a radio talk show host.
He was going to lose big in his reelection bid in Indiana and correctly guessed that losing as a national VP candidate was better than losing in flyover country.
No other Republican wanted to join Don "the Biggest Loser" Trump in his losing game show, so Pence took one for the team and raised his national profile. I don't agree with many of his policies but taking the VP spot was smart.
Gee, for those that realized the purpose of the debate, Pence did exactly what he was supposed to be doing. We expected to learn about Pence and Kaine. I would think considering Hillary's ill health and a 99.9% chance that if she were elected that Kaine would be sworn in in the next couple of years that Democrats would have wanted to learn about him. Well, I guess they did learn about him. Sorry, goofy and rude know nothing.
No, Kaine didn't play the "bait your opponent into saying something that can be used in a campaign ad against him" with anything like the finesse that Clinton does. But he played it just the same, and he got his opponent to flat-out tell foolish lies in public, several times.
. . . . and by shamelessly lying about what Trump had said. Just watch videos of Trump's own words.
