I find it cute how some think that Handel is not a puppet of big money interests. Its something utterly absurd about working stiffs cheering on lackeys who promise to carry the water for the ruling donor class. Big money is totally dominating politics and the needs of ordinary Americans are completely ignored. Joe Sixpack didnt win tonight, he lost. And the donors are laughing at him.
The polls I heard, were saying that bad weather would help the Democrats, since they were younger. The Republicans were supposed to be old, and used to easy living.
And the Destroy-Trump polls extend their perfect 0-for-everything record of getting it wrong AGAIN.
Nate Silver & gang need to start factoring in the "Bradley Effect" when polling Trump supporters. It should be obvious GOP voters along with independents & some democrats are not telling the truth about how they are going to vote. They had the pajama boy Ossoff up by 7 points last week. Idiots....they will not face reality
Previous margins of victory 7 months ago
23.4 and 20.5 points.
Both districts moved more than 15 points to the Democrats. If the national vote did that you would have something like 350 Democrats in the House. Democrats were competitive in suburban Georgia, after just five months of Trump.
So what was so special about this particular district? Two things - Clinton performed fairly well here during the election and this is a very highly educated wealthy district (e.g. large portion of voters with at least a bachelor's). This is why it was being called a referendum on Trump - the belief that the educated would move away from Trump/GOP further emphasizing the media narrative that it was only poorly educated, poor white people who support him and thus the GOP. Does this bust the media narrative completely? I think a case could be made.
LOL. I will blame no one. Im pretty happy with the results. This has been a Republican district for decades. The fact that Ossof even came close pretty much spells the doom of the GOP majority in 2018. LOL. Its all good.
Wait for actual competitive races, and we will see how it goes. The swings in the results do not bode well for Republicans.
The so called Trump backlash is fake news. Handel won by a bigger percentage than Trump did in that district. The 2018 congressional elections are going to be horrendous for the democrats.
For fun put CNN on now. The sad faces all around. I love it.
My husband and I were channel surfing and I told him the same thing--each person on the panel, including the moderator, Don Lemon, had a glum look on their face. It was very unprofessional.
We flipped over to Pravda, oops, I meant MSNBC, and they weren't even covering it--just an update scrolling on the bottom of the screen.
Ironically, on FOX, Hannity wasn't in a celebratory mood. He expressed concern about the "deep state" and the Mueller investigation, wondering when this nation will accept the desire of the people.
Interesting to see how each network covered it (or not!)
