For what it is worth, here is a brief and selective historical timeline with some personal notes about some past and major current Presidential candidates (and with a few cultural historical notes) sprinkled in to give a bit of context about their place in history.
We share the present and look forward to the future together but these candidates came on the scene at different times. Their exposure to history and experiences affect them differently. Voters may not understand that much about the times certain candidates grew up in and the candidates may not understand the formative times of certain voters that well either.
1885 Trump’s grandfather immigrates to US.
1901 Trump’s grandfather having gotten rich in US, Canada and Alaska, decides to return to Germany.
1904 Bernie Sanders' father born in what is now Poland.
1905 Trump’s grandfather expelled from Germany for previous draft evasion, returns to US. George HW Bush's grandfather runs a steel factory for the brother of John D Rockefeller.
1908 Commercial radio
1910 Mexican Revolution starts
1911 Reagan born.
1911-12 China stops being a dynasty, becomes a republic
1917 Joe Biden’s mother born in Delaware
1917 Russian Revolution
1918 George HW Bush’s grandfather becomes chief of the Ordnance, Small Arms, and Ammunition Section of War Industries Board. Buys a lot of Remingtons for military, then owned in part by Rockefeller family member.
1918 WWI ends
1919 League of Nations formed
1921 Bernie Sanders father immigrates to US.

1964 Civil Rights bill passed. Bernie Sanders graduates from college. Kamala Harris born. Joe Biden tells his future 1st wife he intends to become a US Senator then President. Beatles get first US #1 single.
1965 Color TV broadcast
1966 Reagan becomes Governor of California
1967 Obama in elementary school in Indonesia. George W Bush elected to Congress.
1968 MLK and RFK assassinations. Peak cultural change. Sanders moves to Vermont. Biden gets law degree and has first child the following year. “Thought of himself as a Republican” before becoming a registered Independent and then running for local office as a Democrat in 1969. Trump graduates college.
1969 First moon landing.
1971 Sanders first runs for office unsuccessfully, followed by other defeats over a few years. Harris enters 2nd grade.
1972 Biden wins seat in U.S. Senate
1974 Nixon resigns
1975 Bill Clinton marries Hillary Rodham.
1976 Jimmy Carter elected
1977 First mass market computers. First Star Wars movie.
1979 Buttigieg’s father becomes US citizen. First recorded rap song released. Obama graduates high school.
1980 Reagan elected. Sanders becomes Mayor of Burlington Vermont.
1982 Pete Buttigieg born. Harris graduates high school. Madonna releases first singles.
