That would be about as substantive as anything else we could expect from the Trump camp and his hangers-on.

Actually, it’s 8 languages. He wasn’t counting English.

In keeping with his smart, academically savvy profile, one thing you might not have known about Pete is that he speaks (or is proficient in) seven languages: Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, Maltese, Arabic, Dari, and French. As The New York Times put it, "He taught himself Norwegian to read more books!"

One important key to the myth that tends to be built up around polyglots is the vaporous quality of numbers of languages. How many languages can Buttigieg actually speak? His campaign confirmed eight when I reached out: English, Norwegian, Spanish, French, Italian, Maltese, Arabic, and Dari. A specific count of languages, though, can also be an unreliable credential for any polyglot, because a language isn’t a defined unit of measure.

Fluency means expert/fully functional. Seen that too often in my life, esp when I lived in France. They'd become proficient at a few basic level then suddenly its fluency. Especially those near Germany, Flanders, etc who grew up around another language and could say a few things. Hardly fluent, though.

I spoke nothing but french for 5 years. I was pretty fluent. But to cockily contend native fluency? No way.

So...calling BS on his 7 lanugage 'fluency"

just say he's got familiarity with a number of languages.

Whatever phraseology floats your boat.

But he isn’t Alfred E. Newman.

Trump has no business giving anyone nicknames, just look at him with his weird hair which happens to be an unnatural yellow color, and all of that orange foundation makeup, he looks like a circus clown!

You need to loosen up that pu$$y hat - it's cutting off circulation. And this thread is about Mayor Pete and his uncanny resemblance to Dukakis, so please stay on topic.

edit - but to be fair, this thread is a giant insult to Mike Dukakis

LOL. You are completely missing it.

A. E. Neuman is fluent in 17 languages. Ringo1 had this one right.

abolishing the electoral college and a 15 member Supreme Court make him unpalatable...
