I have read this:
Quote:
After being impeached by the House, Trump could be removed by the Senate and still retain his ability to run for the presidency in 2020.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Trump was removed then ran again and won? But seriously - should a President be allowed to run for the office again after he has been removed like that?

It won't happen though. Trump carried mostly the small states which each have two Senators. If the Democrats had two-thirds of the Senate to impeach, that would include the larger, populous states aside from perhaps Texas. It would be a landslide victory.

It might work the other way. Republicans could more realistically impeach a Democratic President and then see them just turn around and get re-elected.

Yeah with whomever the Dem nominee ends up being poised to garner a crushing 400+ EV's next year, it's all a moot point anyway.

Orange man bad.

Would the republicans re-nominate him after he'd already been removed?

That would be one hell of a convention.

There's nothing to stop him from running again.

There's also nothing to stop another impeachment either.

There's no statutory limits on the impeachment. This means there's no time limit imposed on any part of it or the way it proceeds.
This fact could create this scenario: The House holds the bill of impeachment until after the election. If Trump is re-elected, and the GOP loses the Senate, the House could send the bill to the Senate afterwards and convict Trump after he was elected a second time.
While that is very doubtful, there's nothing in the law to prevent it.

Trump could run again on a 3rd try even if he was found guilty and was removed from office after being re-elected. There's nothing in the law to prevent that. He would lose his second term, but he could come back after that term expires.

All of it or any of it is possible.

The Constitution says next to nothing about impeachment except that it is allowed. It gives a very general term of offenses that warrant it, and leaves almost all the details up to the people and their representatives. The Constitution's rules are very general and have very few specifics.

It removes his right to run again.

But it would make me mad enough to vote for Trump Jr, and I don't like Trump Jr.

How about 8 years of a Trump sibling? Madam President Ivanka.

Yes. And in his second term, he will be pretty much immune from a second impeachment except for real crimes. So the Dems have basically given him free reign for his second term.

What choice would they have if he got the most votes?

Impeachment is now meaningless and every president from here on out should expect to get impeached several times throughout their term.

Since it will become the new normal, it shouldn’t effect their eligibility for future elections.
