Not sure why democrats would oppose. All those fans shouting means far more droplets coming out. It's a similar setting to how a healthy young Miami guy died at an event of Covid-19. If he fell ill and died, would Pence become the automatic nominee?

Oh there may have been that many requests, but attendance is what counts. Kind of like making a dinner reservation, you can have lots of requests to dine but if nobody shows up you're out of business.
