It's the Democrats from state like California that are pushing them there by raising the taxes etc.

Good. Having a large number of locations--in a state where I believe the great majority are still voting in person--is an invitation for fraud. This ensures that it'll be easier to detect shadiness and illegality (e.g. ballot stuffing).

Taxes aren't getting raised by much, and there are limits on how much revenue can increase without a vote by the citizens. And, there's no state income tax.

Sounds like voter suppression. No need for this other than making it harder for Dem leaning areas to vote.
It doesn't sound like voter suppression, this is a form of election cheating, in public and in plain view.

"One way of understanding how crazy this is that at 4.7 million people, Harris County has more people than 25 states. It has more people than the five least populated states COMBINED. and it gets ONE ballot dropoff point." @jonrog1 twitter

It's outright discrimination against urban voters in favor of rural voters.

We need a constitutional amendment to have federal standards and federal oversight of elections. The states cannot be trusted to conduct them fairly.

Reading on some local Texas news station websites lawsuits are being filed this may be reversed by the courts.

Thankfully judges there are very conservative, they will reject this lawsuits. Democrats so far lost 2 lawsuits, this will be no different.

The problem with that argument is that Texas law only allows voting by mail if you won't be in the state come election day, if health issues prevent you from getting to the polls physically, or if you are 65 years old or older. Texas Democrats tried to use the health exception to read into the law an excuse to all every Texan to vote by mail if they feared catching covid

But the courts have disagreed with such an interpretation, so the great majority of Texans will not be voting by mail and, thus, the fearmongering about millions of Texans in Harris County being harmed by this is ridiculous: https://www.texastribune.org/2020/06...sentee-voting/

Thus, why do you need a large amount of vote by mail drop off locations when the great majority of people won't be doing so and when Texas allows a two week early voting period in person in addition to being able to vote on election day itself?

According to this local news report one county said it won't matter that much because they can just add more drop boxes at one location. They have drive though drop boxes the time has been reduced to less then a min per person.

The problem with your argument is -- why now? He issued an emergency order to suspend state law to do this. What's the emergency? His order cited "election security" as the reason but didn't provide evidence of fraud, tampering or other abuse of the boxes.

Gov Abbott's order stinks to high heaven. If the courts there work the way they are supposed to then the burden will be on Abbott to prove there really is an emergency to address. Otherwise, his order should be thrown out.

This move might also hurt older white republican voters who do vote by mail in Texas were younger democrats vote in person. California needs to send more of their voters to Texas eventually it will turn blue. With Biden and the democrats take control of congress give amnesty to 10 million illegal immigrants all become voters.
