I would consider voting for a non-politician as long as they demonstrated both the ability and the willingness to learn what the actual position involves. No more of someone thinking they can just write their own script and that is how everything will proceed to their desired ending.

Businessmen would make good policies, but will be frustrated by the slowness and red tape you have to go through to accomplish anything. Politicians seem to live for discussing everything to death and accomplishing little. The longer they have been in office the less effective they become. 80 and 90+ year old politicians have no business keeping their jobs. There has to be a middle ground somewhere.

All things being equal I'd take

A business person over a governor
A governor over a military person
A military person over a senator
A senator over a congress critter
A congress critter over a government bureaucrat

I would, but I wouldn’t expect them to be a wizard who is above the many laws, regulations and red tape the government has created over the centuries.

I wouldn’t vote for someone who I think would try to strong arm their way through the presidency or try to undermine the basic foundations of our government in order to consolidate power for themselves.

No, would not vote for a nonpolitician.
I would vote for someone who can lead and do so within the boundaries of the Constitution.

Politicians are jaded. There are only a handful who really want what's best for the country and not for themselves or their cronies.

It would depend on who they are, and what they stand for. Sadly, many non-politicians become politicians when a person/business/etc. starts stuffing their pockets with money to vote and promote certain things. Corruption is so infectious.

I'll say again: experience counts for a lot. It's a hard job. I don't want an inexperienced pilot to be flying my next jumbo jet.
