Had a fun morning in DC, hanging out with the protestors. Thought I'd share some of my impressions.

I met a bunch of interesting people from all over the country. About half were for Clinton, half for Obama. The Clinton fans were better organized and most had t-shirts or signs. Some came quite a distance.

The Obama fans wore regular clothes, and most of the ones I met were from Virginia, NY, Delaware, or Maryland. They were not organized but had come on their own.

It may be coincidental, but the Clinton fans who came the farthest distance seemed to be the most interesting to talk to. There were some women who came from Nebraska who were extremely interesting. The people from Michigan were delightful--smart, thoughtful, and hilarious.

The Clinton fans from Florida were obnoxious. Of course, that was just the people I met, I'm sure there are many intelligent Clinton fans in Florida. But these people were dumb. They kept repeating a few party line sentences and couldn't defend their positions or carry on a conversation about anything political beyond saying "I support Hillary Clinton." They seemed menacing, like henchman.

I have a funny story about the Floridians which I'll put in my next post.

After an hour or so, we got tired of hanging out with the protestors and decided to cruise the monuments. Clusters of women were everywhere, I presume many of them were here for the protest but taking a chance to see the sights, too.

One group of Florida women were handing out t-shirts at the WWII memorial. At least I'm assuming they were from Florida because that's what the t-shirts said. A few of them were sitting in the fountain, soaking their feet.

Now, I'm sure they were hot and bothered from all that walking around and protesting--but there was a sign right there saying "please respect the monument and stay out of the fountain." Also, they were wearing shirts that said "Clinton."

So I pointed out to the ladies that they weren't supposed to be in the fountain, and with their Clinton shirts they were a photo-op just waiting for some reporter to come by. I didn't want to see their photo on the front page of the Washington Post. Also, I told them if the park police saw them passing out t-shirts they could get a ticket.

I think I was pretty polite when I said this but I almost got clobbered! Talk about touchy--these ladies were mad!mad!mad! Picture Rosie O'Donnell and Roseanne Arnold madder than a wet hen, and multiply by 10--and you'll get an idea.

Fortunately, nothing happened. They were indignant for a few seconds, then scooted out of there. I left too (in another direction). But if you hear about a semi-violent skirmish happening at the WWII monument today... um, I may have started it. Sorry 'bout that.

Generally boomer age, who seem to feel a sense of entitlement.

The weather was actually pretty nice in the morning. The thunderstorms held off until noon. Before that, it was mild and pleasantly overcast. Sometimes the hot sun can be a real problem in DC, but this was really nice weather. Until the tornadoes and heavy rain and thunderstorms started. But we were already on our way home by then.

See, this is the other reason I have to wonder about those ladies soaking their feet in the WWII memorial. I can understand when people do that on a super hot sunny day. I think it's a common problem in August, that's why they put up the signs. But why today? It was nice out!

LOL! Yes, I'd say most people of the boomer generation are adults and as such expect to be entitled to having their vote counted. What a concept.

OK, on to other impressions. Lots of biker chicks! Apparently a lot of people rode into town for Rolling Thunder last weekend, and decided to stay for a week and show up for this, too. It was a nice touch, actually--I liked seeing the rolling thunder shirts and the vietnam vet attire.

It made a point--This president has to get us out of a situation that isn't all that different from Vietnam.

What's Rolling Thunder? It's a memorial day ride from the Pentagon to the Vietnam Wall. Most of the people are vietnam vets and their families and friends. It is the most touching memorial day observation I've ever seen. My hat is off to those bikers who stayed in town a week so they could show up for an important politicial event like this. They may have an impact on the future--talk about an appropriate way to honor vets.
