Yeah, I know. I moved from Dallas, TX to Los Angeles and what I make here would be on a whole different level in Dallas. A home for $750K is very modest in the surburb I live in but in Dallas I'd be living in an exclusive neighborhood and be considered rich. That's the point I was making.
I disagree. I can't define rich because it is different by region in many cases. Like the pastor said in Orange County, CA $150,000 is definitely not rich by any means. In many parts of the country it would be considered rich.
Now I can define filthy rich, Bill Gates, Waren Buffet, etc..

In the year 2000 there were 105.5 million households in the U.S. with an average of 2.6 persons per household. (See http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html .) So, assumuing that America's population didn't change between 2000 and 2003 (incorrect assumption, of course), this means 95% of America's population in 2000 of about 274 million people were in a household that makes less than $155K/year using 2003 income data.
This also tells me that if $150K is the definition of 'rich' for household income purposes, there are about 250,000 persons in each of the 50 states (assuming that the top 5% of earners are equally distributed among the 50 states, which is another incorrect assumption, I'm sure; but I am only offering an approximation to stimulate discussion) that would be targeted to having their Federal income taxes raised into a higher bracket.

In effect taxing them would bring them much closer to the middle......
So say he can tax these folks and redistribute it to the poor and bring them up in standards of living.....
Who provides the jobs since small business (under 100 employees) is 70% of the jobs in America? What incentive is there to start a new business if taxes are/will be so far leaning.
It even has the self destructive nature of being unmotivational to those folks that were considered "poor" before into ever acheiving anything more than the status quote of 30 years service then retiring on pension and savings...Not saying some aren't happy there.....You want people to start their own business. In the "poor" communites keeping the wealth in the community is important.....however if no one is the employeer of the "poor" folks it's not going to stay in the community.
American dream for a long time has never meant working for someone else.....can you be successful doing so...yes.
To truly ever be self sufficient one must employee others as their assets.....in return they provide a decent standard of living to their employees while they benefit from the sacrifices.
Some call it trickle down economics...It's what has brought us to the strength we have today....however misguided some may think it is.
The question is, what percentage of the households in America that make at least $250K/year are in Manhattan.

The thought behind that is to make everyone equal......Not American. Check out the revolutionary war....it was all over taxes....taxes are what caused the original colonies to leave in the first place.....if you want regression we can go that route I guess......just don't mistakenly call it progression...

What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander in this case....You can't redistribute densely populated wealth through American which is mostly vast lands of open fields.
