Um. She did actually fight against fellow Republican Ted Steven's bridge to nowhere.
She also kept the money. (http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_plank/archive/2008/08/29/did-palin-really-fight-the-bridge-to-nowhere.aspx - broken link) And her statements in real time appear to show that she had less of a problem with taking $400 million in pork itself, than the fact that this project became a national punchline.

5. Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?
Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now--while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist
A few months later...

"Ketchikan desires a better way to reach the airport, but the $398 million bridge is not the answer," said Governor Palin. "Despite the work of our congressional delegation, we are about $329 million short of full funding for the bridge project, and it's clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island," Governor Palin added. "Much of the public's attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portrayals of the projects here. But we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened."
Some fight she put up. That's conviction.
Anyway, that still doesn't change the fact that Alaska still receives more earmarks than any other state.

Is it any worse than the most inexperienced presidential candidate in modern history who touts change and political reform in Washington picking a three decades plus Washington insider? She has one less year under her belt as governor of Alaska than Obama does as a junior senator from Illinois.

Change isn't simply being outside of Washington. As illustrated in the speech last night, the ideas that Obama's running on are change, major changes, from what we've seen the past 8 years.
On the flip side, McCain has grumbled "Celebrity...experience...experience...I'm a POW...Get off my lawn!" as the basis for electing him. If you're campaign is nearly entirely about attacking your opponent's experience, whom you say isn't ready to be commander in chief, then pick a VP who two years ago was a Mayor of 6,000 people in Alaska, then you demonstrate how completely vapid the centerpiece of your campaign is.
John McCain believes the fight against Islam is the "transcendent issue of our time". Thus, in case his aged 72 year old body cannot handle 8 years, he taps young Governor Palin, someone with no national experience, no international experience, and part time governor of the 4th smallest state in the union. Really, does McCain actually believe anything he says?
