I for one believe it is important to have the four leading candidates in the debates and possibly even 5. Ralph Nader is the candidate for 2 groups and Bob Barr is the candidate for the Libertarians, Cynthia McKinney is the fifth candidate of note. There are several sponsors of the debate and I encourage everyone in CD to voice their opinions as I have. Here are the sponsors and contact information.

The problem is even if the sponsors wanted the others in McCain/Obama have the final say and I can't see either agreeing to it.

I dont want to waste my time with the others. A 2 hour debate between Obama and McCain will turn into a 5 hour debate when all the left wing and right wing extemists are added in.

Heaven forbid ideas actually be discussed rather than crafted soundbites delivered. We wouldn't want people who can think for themselves to participate... imagine the potential embarassment for the parties that have a self directed monopoly on politics.

It'll never happen. The debates are run by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which was started by the Democrats and Republicans. They have no interest in opening up debates because it provides competition for ideas... the very thing that could cause the two-headed beast monopoly to crumble.

Here is a response I got from one of the sponsers... I encourage others to communicate to them as I will.
Thank you for your email, Ken. IBWA's sponsorship of the upcoming Presidential Debates does not involve us at all in the process, format or content of the debates. That is under the auspices of the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), and I would recommend that you contact them directly with your concerns - their office number is (202) 872-1020.

Best wishes.

That's funny, considering the Dems and Reps are more left and right than Green and Libertarian parties. It's amazing how little most people know about parties that aren't Democrat or Republican. Libertarian is another direction of the political spectrum; there's more than just left/right. Take center, then move away towards more freedom and smaller government (hence, liberty -> libertarian). However, Bob Barr is definitely more right than the general Libertarian Party.. which is why they he won't get my vote.
