There is nothing wrong with having faith. There never has been.
I have faith. Not specifically in the Judeo-Christian God.
What's wrong is when that faith enters the political sector to color one's decisions on what happens to other people, such as, for example, in a position of power like the vice presidency or presidency. It's not hard to see how one politican or another's religion, beliefs or lack of either or both color what they do in office. When the person's faith is very very outspoken in a position of very high power, then it becomes more dangerous. Then it is not a deeply personal thing any more. It is a tool for power.
This is why people (or I...maybe I shouldn't speak for everyone) do in fact balk at the thought of Palin's beliefs and how they might color her decisions in a position of power.
So I absolutely think it's relevant. And if laughter comes with it...we all get laughs off one another; we even get them off our own candidates, sometimes. I have always been a jokester. I will always be a jokester. I mentioned in another thread that my DH and I joke off one another at times. He calls me C3PO because I constantly panic and throw up my arms and run here and there. And I joke about how cheap he is with the groceries, etc. and about his Sim City obsession. Stuff like that. When it comes to religion...yes, people will joke about Sarah Palin's beliefs because, deeply held or not, they are archaic, and most of us want to move forward, not be held back. Some people use archaic truths as, simply, eternal truths and a rock to stand on. Others use them to reel other people in to their way of thinking as a matter of control. Palin gives me the definite feeling of being the latter so if I blow off steam and joke, then I do.
But it is still very legitimate...IMO.
And I made the "heathens" joke above because I'm probably the only non-Christian who responded yet I was being asked the order and days that God created various parts of life, LOL. Admit it. That was pretty ironic.
I don't remember when and how she has interjected her faith into the campaign. Others have investigated and interjected the faith of the candidates into the discussion but other then Saddlebrook have they?
LOL well she has to believe that because God made the earth in 7 days. Most Christians take that literally but dont understand it doesnt mean 7 days in our time.
To clarify, Catholics don't take a literal view. We also have no problem with evolution.
Would it bother you to know one of our elected leaders prayed for guidance prior to making a critical decision?
No.
It would bother me if one of our elected leaders prayed for guidance, then told me what to do with my body. To give an example.
If someone prays inside his/her home, that's all good. It's as you stated...it is a deeply personal thing. With the emphasis on "personal", from my POV.
Incidentally, you know what else would bother me? If a poster would, say, sensationalize an anti-witch prayer by starting a thread on it, then continue the continuation of the thread; then suddenly a few days later and try to knock me on the noggin for not being kind and gentle toward another's religion.
Man. That would bother me.
