You're right. It's the people who don't even know what a trailer is that show how bright and "sophisticated" they are.

But realize, some people have jobs where they can't move to a rural location. Some have time invested in a job that gives them the ability to survive on their wages.
And yes, I was generalizing, because most of the population is concentrated in large metropolitan areas and their bedroom communities. In these areas, you cannot buy homes or condos for that price.
I saw a different side of the south when I went on some interviews there. Not everyone was doing well.
But I give you credit for doing what you can. But realize, some people don't have a lot of choices. Instead of convincing Americans to lay down and accept low wages and lack of jobs, we need to be fighting for our place in the global economy.
I agree with you. We're way overdue for an economic revolution, of sorts. Our wages and labor climate are way off-kilter. However, my dad was a steelworker and often an officer in his union and, when he was alive, he lamented the effect union greed had and what it would mean in the future. They negotiated for incredible vacation packages he would often sell back to the company. (Every so many years, he received 13 weeks of vacation and he would sell back at least half of that!) The steelworkers made much higher wages than folks who had college degrees and worked in the helping professions.

Dad said that the union greed would come back to hurt manufacturing and the jobs would go elsewhere if it wasn't reined in. He turned out to be right! Now, the blue collar folks are getting squeezed out -- companies are counting on illegal aliens to work for cheap or they're sending the jobs to factories overseas. Students are told they must have some educational attainment after high school but, after taking on that burden and expense, they're still having trouble making ends meet because salaries are low. In some areas, they're now in debt AND jobless. Something has to give!

But increasing government programs aren't the answer. It's got to come primarily from the private sector. Personally, I think we're going to see a big change in how we live -- to a return in favor of self-determination, cottage industries, local businesses, and strong communities as opposed to huge, bland chains and large companies.

Your chiding tone, scolding Americans for buying homes they couldn't afford doesn't comprehend what is going on:

People want the American Dream. You would rather have us cut back, than to get good paying jobs back in America!! Ha! Expect less, don't aspire to more...

People seek tax shelters. I don't blame them for wanting the equity either.

People assume they will be making more money in the future, or at least hoping for that. People take risks to have something better.

Sarah was right on in what she said. If you aren't man enough to take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. you must be one who lives like a king with no money to back it up, and then you got caught. Live within your means and life is good.
I hope the economy goes further down maybe all the ignorant democrats will starve to death and leave the country a better place...
Your entire post contained as much BS as Biden's debate, he doesn't have a clue, either..!

You blame Americans, when the problem lies with the economy.
Lost jobs, big debts and not necessarily from frivolous spending, jobs not keeping up with the cost of living are at the root of this.
Medical debts are the main problem of personal debt.

It is no wonder that Ohio has been the No. 1 state for home foreclosures...look at the millions of jobs lost, and the pay scales have gone DOWN there.

Your little talk about sitting around the table with Todd, talking about how you once didn't have insurance, blah blah. Come on! Next we will be hearing about how John McCain had to go without a corp jet at some point.

Sarah, don't try to empathize with me, because you can't. You don't know what it is like to take a job so I can be employed, so I don't qualify for health care assistance, but I don't make enough to cover health insurance costs. I cannot afford a $5000 deductible to afford the cheapest plan either. But my goal is to not be on the dole.

Sarah, don't tell me what a Maverick is. I have never aligned myself with anything or anyone because of party lines. I am an American Patriot and Taxpayer. I call it what it is. I have had to move 3 times to stay employed. Who would ever think one would have to be such a job nomad in this nation? There was a time when you could live near or in any big city, and find a livable wage job with health care benefits.

Sarah, don't tell me you know how it is. You won't talk about the destruction of the Middle Class, the outsourcing of jobs, the downsizing, the rewarding of corps that go overseas.

Sarah, I haven't heard you say once, how you'd give incentives for those companies to operate and employ Americans on American soil.

Sarah, all I have heard you talk about is the oil companies. I have heard you rant about Israel, but that, lady, is the fire you should have about the American people, not a foreign nation.

Sarah, you and John want to tax employment health care benefits. That is one of the worst things I have ever heard.

Sarah, I don't believe you. I don't believe that smile. I didn't get one wave of seriousness from you about things. I did get that you want to be VP of this nation, and that is your goal. But I don't trust many politicians and when you try to sit next to me and talk like you are "one of us", you aren't. I smell Karl Rove behind the spins, and I personally do not know how you can live with yourself. You accepted this nomination, because you wanted to be second in command, it was heady, seductive, and because you made it to governor, this was exhilarating. You fell for the "more power" and you must have had to turn off your mind at night to sleep.

You see, people remember George Bush's campaigns. The "guy you could sit and have a beer with" is the guy who was a blueblood from Connecticut, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He isn't some pickup truck driving guy who just got elected by the popular vote. He used the same attempts. He even says EYE-RACK and NOOK YUH LAR but that never made him struggle the struggle out here.

Sarah, none of this is about relating to you, or liking your hobbies, your glasses, the fact you are a mom, or that you hail from AK. You are the big distraction, to get people to "relate to" you. But I don't vote for someone just because they are a woman, or any other superficial reason. I look at where someone stands on the issues. Ron Paul made more sense than anyone else. I cross party lines, but moreover, I consider myself an independent. It was people like you who have hijacked the Republican party, and made it a party of Neoconservatives and the Religious Right. George Bush is no conservative, yet, I can bet you and McCain will follow in his footsteps.

It is about the real issues facing this nation. We need someone who can MANAGE and CHANGE this tide. And those words are easy to throw around and use, just like the Maverick word. You say too much, but you say too little.

But someone once said to me, "Watch their actions, not their words."

-An American Taxpayer
The problem is with Americans in general, since we are the ones who elect senators and presidents who end-up making taxpayers pay for their mistakes. Look at the boards of directors of Jenny M., and Freddy Mac, and you will see that approximately 80% are Democrats, and the rest Republicans. These are the folks who stole the money, gave it away to politicians, and walked away with plush retirements. I blame both sides for not protecting Americans, and also those who accepted the money knowing full well they could not pay back.

One of the purposes of the Government is to protect the people from what just happened to these lending institutions. By Government I don't mean "Bush," but the tree branches of government, one of which is Congress. Look at the list of senators who directly benefitted from these lending institutions, and hopefully then you will begin to understand.

You mean like the Palin's?

Palin, who earns a salary of $125,000 a year, has claimed “per-diem†allowances totalling $16,951 over a period of 19 months since she’s been in office. Per diem allowances are supposed to cover meals and incidental expenses when officials travel on state business. Palin, though, used allowance claims to bill the state for over 312 nights spent at her own house in Wasilla. In submitting her claims she referred to “Lodging - own residence†or “Lodging - Wasilla residence†over 30 times. It’s not clear at all how she construed spending the night in her own home as official state business. In fact, at some point, it seems she recognized the unseemly nature of her claims and added twenty-four amendments to the allowance reports. She took care to delete all lodging-related references in these amendments. Dropping her claims altogether did not occur to her. Due to her privileged position as governor, Palin’s claims for reimbursement all went unchallenged.

This aforementioned "American Dream" of yours includes using a big ole home as an ATM? Funny -- I thought homes were for living in, not to use as collateral to live beyond your means.

This exemplifies EXACTLY what's happened to America. By all means, elect your inexperienced leader who will prop up this sort of philosophy. And watch the REAL American Dream fall apart from the greed.
Tea you live in Texas, where I do not know..but in Austin Texas your own state capitol you would be very hard pressed to find much housing for less than $225000. So instead of thinking that this person is vial for calling Palin out on this issue think about for a minute!!Is there anywhere in your city where you would live and raise your children. While at the same time being in a neighborhood of $150000 homes. I think we know the answer. Si? As for the nation falling apart from greed? Just read the news; Tea, our nation fell apart already. Now we are looking for someone to rebuild our devastated nation back in to the great proud one it was 8 years ago!

Sputnik, Austin is THE most expensive city in Texas. Geez, even Dallas has very affordable housing for a metro. Think Austin's demise has anything to do with the big influx of Californians?

Austin is overbuilt, congested, and getting worse. That's a shame. Nope, I wouldn't live anywhere near Austin. But, think about it -- the rest of Texas IS affordable. Please God that the Left Coast emigrants don't "discover" other Texas cities.

Default living beyond their means

The rich cats love it when their peon subjects argue amongst themselves. It takes the heat off of them. They would rather have you blame each other than have you see where all the blame lies.

How many millions do these CEOS need and deserve? How much of the taxpayers money just disappears and no one even questions it?
