Just a question? Since we are being told he knows how to win wars, where is that coming from? He was not a successful warrior.
More from his resume: McCain lost FIVE US Aircrafts
Navy pilot John Sidney McCain III should have never been allowed to graduate from the U.S. Navy flight school. He was a below average student and a lousy pilot. Had his father and grandfather not been famous four star U.S. Navy admirals, McCain III would have never been allowed in the cockpit of a military aircraft.

Likewise, we have more proof that McCain knows more about foreign affairs than, as we're being told, Obama knows how to fix the economy. His voting record bears rehashing--anyone who's afraid to take a stand one way or the other--vote one way or the other--isn't ready to lead a nation. Not this nation, anyway.
What is this supposed to mean? You think McCain had some control over whether his Vietnamese captors executed him?
No McCain does *not* "know how to win wars". He never won one.
His father and father's father were admirals in the U.S. Navy. But not John. He probably feels a lot of pressure on that account. But President trumps an admiral, I suppose.
Only he would beable to anwer that question, we were not there..
Your statement about McCain not winning a war, America lost that war for many reasons, alot due to the lack of support from a large part of the American ppl and elected officials...alot of lost lives in that war, may their souls rest in peace...

One of the fighters that McCain "lost" was waiting on the flight deck on the USS Forrestal as it was blowing up due to a previous accident elsewhere on the ship.
The piece you cite says that McCain had a total of 20 hours of combat time (that is, time spent over enemy territory) in 23 combat missions flown during the Vietnam Conflict before he was shot down. He received 28 medals for his service in Vietnam.

Approved by dad? What missions did he have prior to being shot down?

McCain's valor awards are based on what happened in 1967, when during his 23d mission over Vietnam, he was shot down, seriously injured, captured and then spent 5 1/2 brutal years as a POW.
In an attempt to find out exactly what the man did to earn these many hero awards, I asked his Senate office three times to provide copies of the narratives for each medal. I'm still waiting.
I next went to the Pentagon. Within a week, I received a recap of his medals and many of the narratives that give the details of what he did.
None of the awards, less the DFC, were for heroism over the battlefield where he spent no more than 20 hours. Two Naval officers described the awards as "boilerplate" and "part of an SOP medal package given to repatriated (Vietnamera) POWs."
So again other then being shot down what are his hero credentials?
