The 3/5 rule for counting slaves was not a 3/5 vote but a recognition that a majority of most southern states population was slaves. If electroral votes and the congressional seats that were based on a census that only counted white non-slaves as citizens, then the northern non-slave states would have had a 2:1 or better majority in the US House and Electoral College. This would almost guarentee the election of northern or northern favored candidates for President and passage in the House of laws and taxes favored by the north. What the south was given was to be able to add the slave population x 3/5 to the states census and thus gain more House seats, So southern House seats had far fewer white citizens as northern one. How democratic!

Our founding fathers would be sickened by what both parties (Dems and Reps equally) have done to this once great nation through their power struggles and neglect of the American people especially since about 1992 or so

They would have voted for some third party candidate that TRULY believes in America and freedom, not the 2 jokes that ran this past election

City Data emailed me to make a new comment on this thread. Really nothing has changed over the past few years. Obama is still the worst president the voters have ever elected, but Hillary will do her darnedest to outdo him. The what's-in-it-for-me voters will disregard who she really is, and the country will continue its downward spiral into the abyss.

Remember that they could split their vote for President/VP, so they might actually vote Obama for pres and McCain for VP, because of his military record.

Oh LOL, that is one sad post....I disagree, big time!!!!!!! Obama: well spoken???? LOL, thanks for that one.

Obama used to be an excellent speaker. His charisma started slipping over the past 3-5 years, but prior to that, he gave amazing speeches. Now he's just tired of politics and the spotlight, and can't wait to call it a career.

If the founders had been around for the 2008 election neither of those guys would have been a candidate. And WashDC would be a very different place.

If the founders were around today they would be arrested for kidnapping, rape, false imprisonment, etc. Felons can't vote so it's a moot point.

I personally think the founders would be like me. Confused that all of these people on both sides of the debate think that the government is working for them.
