WASHINGTON (CNN) - GOP presidential candidate Texas Gov. George W. Bush continued to maintain an advantage over Democratic Vice President Al Gore in Sunday's CNN/USA Today/Gallup tracking poll.
Forty-nine percent of respondents said they supported Bush while 42 percent said they would vote for Gore, no change at all from Saturday's poll.
And remember Gore did win the popular vote which the polls were measuring. Remember? Thus it was Bush with a lead who lost the popular vote not Gore as stated above. Perhaps October 29 is not close enough to today to be acceptable.
Contrary to claims in here Republicans pay attention to polls and think they matter. At least the ones in charge do much to the shame of others in the party. FOXNews.com - McCain Leaving Michigan Is a Sign of Weakness - Opinion
Conceding Michigan may well make sense for McCain given the most recent polls, showing him falling further and further behind, and the reality that presidential politics, particularly when things are looking down, is a zero sum game in which a shrinking pie must be divided with ever greater precision. There are places where McCain is closer; states where he has a better chance of winning than Michigan. And a contest in Michigan means spending less in Ohio and Florida, and the remaining “battleground” states.

I understand so please link the poll and date so independent readers/voters can compare and contrast the different poll results and draw their own conclusions.
Now in fact Gore did have 10 point lead in August but the relevance of that to a October date is up to the reader to decide. Remember when evaluating Gore did win the popular vote.

That was the convention bounce. Everybody has one.
Gore coming after a popular but disgraced 2-term President.
Obama coming after the worst man to reside in the oval office in history.
Gore coming after a president with decent approval ratings.
Obama coming after one with the lowest ratings in recent memory.
Gore not nearly as strong a candidate as Obama.
Democrats not hated when Gore ran, Clinton was at the end.
GOP has been stinkin up the joint for 8 years because of Bush.
2000 pre 9/11
2008 post 9/11 Bush, mcCain, GOP stink
