When my wife and I hit some hard times, we cut all those services and saved quite a bit of money and it helped us stay on track until we were able to get ahead.

Interesting thing is that many people who complain about hard times and not being able to pay the bills, usually spend money on worthless things like the above. I once listened to a woman complain about how she couldn't afford to take care of her child and yet they had 300 channels on cable, an internet connection they used to play online games, 3 different console units and a large collection of games and movies, they went to see all the block buster movies when they came out, frequented take out food, and had a cell phone themselves and their children.

Sorry, if that's poor, then someone who redefined the word is as stupid as they come.

Pretty much agreed...but it is presumptuous to believe that people with a low income can't afford those things. It is about priorities and moderation. Some people I know are very frugal, and take pride in it (is that a New England thing?) and have money for those "extras" when they want it.

True, people can prioritize their money and gain some of the frills. My point though is that anyone who is complaining about not having money to pay bills and has those things isn't "prioritizing". If they were they would be paying their bills and wouldn't have those things.
I thought so...but wasn't sure! I get so upset about all this "socialist/communist/terrorist/istist" crap! I actually had a friend vote yesterday, for McCain, because he actually believed his friends and church members when they said Obama was all of the above (and then some). He waffled...he wanted to vote Obama...but he gave into fear. To think our country might be controlled by fear...that IS scary.
I think we've been controlled by the fear factor for several very long years now.. But I truly believed that folks had finally woken up and caught on to how invoking fear has had such a detrimental effect on our country.. But, I, too have a friend who's voting for McCain based largely on fear on a number of levels (that and the abortion issue). I've sent her a number of links (and info) from this site debunking much of what she purports to believe in.
After a week-long spirited discussion, she's stopped writing to me..

Smart woman, that one.

You guys are showing desperation with this talk about fear-driven voting. It's not fear. It's recognizing the reality, the seriousness of the issues and of our responsibility to put the country into the hands of those most qualified to take us through the rough waters ahead. It's not a decision based on fear, it's a decision based on careful, reasoned and rational thought. Only Obama voters vote on emotion.
