I predict that Republicans will only win Cook County president if Stroger is on the Democratic ticket, and in that case, I will vote for a Republican, like I did last time.

If a Democrat like Claypool knocks him off (I voted for Claypool last time) then this is not a sure victory for the Republicans (not to mention, local Republicans do not tend to be socially conservative as that doesn't really bode well politically).

Using the Cook County Board race to bolster your predictions of a sweeping Republican revival is dubious at best.

Finally, Vallas is only running as a Republican to run against Stroger, he's been a Democrat most of his political life.

I don't think I characterized it as a Republican sweep, just a beginning and the enema Cook County desperately needs. Paul Vallas was appointed by a Democrat, but he has been known to work for and support candidates from both parties.

I was just trying to get your goat, MM. I will concede the Republicans do have a shot for senate if Burris is on the ticket. (Of course, either in the Dem primary or the general election, I can see it being turned into a race thing). As far as Vallas goes, I may vote for him, and he does have a shot if Stroger is the Dem nominee. (I voted Claypool in the primary last time, and I skipped the vote in the general since both the candidates made me ill.)

Claypool is a great candidate, but I have heard that the party support will most likely be for Stroger. Either Vallas or Claypool are so much more capable than Toddler, don't you think??

Cheer up. Look at the bright side...

For the next eight years, you can slag on every action this woman, a disabled vet herself, takes to improve veterans' lives.

Besides, the veterans most in need of assistance these days are the very troops that Bush/Cheney kept insisting that we support, while they neglected them once they came home damaged by IEDs or other enemy action.

See? It's not all doom and gloom, after all.

A friend of the family is a disabled vet. The assistance he has received has been phenomenal and he and his family constantly talk about how grateful they are for the medical attention and support he has received. They knew where to find the services that would most benefit him in his journey to return to "normalcy." He is proud to have volunteered to serve his country and is quick to point out that he was a military volunteer - it was a conscious choice that he made.

As for Duckworth, I respect that served our countryand sincerely regret that she was disabled as a result of the war. She ran for Congress and lost in '06 - a bit of an embarassment for Rahm and the Dems since they funneled lots of money her way. She was appointed as Director of the Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs about 2 years ago...now she's in Washington. It's the Illinois Fast Track, just sayin'.

So, you're upset that Obama is appointing well-qualified people he knows personally from Illinois?

Were you this agitated when Bush filled his administration with Texas cronies?

Never voted for Bush or particularly supported his picks for cabinets posts.
Rahm is Duckworth's connection.
