The President of the United States represents , or should represent,
E V E R Y
American.....
not just the ones you find acceptable.
I don't expect him to celebrate Christmas because I'm Christian... I expect him to celebrate it because he is Christian, the same as I would expect a president of Jewish faith to celebrate Yam Kippur.
Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of another nation's military victory. Why should he celebrate one other nation's military accomplishments, without electing to acknowledge/celebrate of every other nations' holidays.
Cinco de Mayo is not really celebrated in Mexico. It's a minor event there. It's a major event for Americans with Mexican heritage. The President is right to celebrate it along with the large fraction of the population for which it has much meaning. He had a seder dinner, for christ sake. Did you post a comment then?
I took my kids this weekend for our local event - great food, great music, fun people. Why not?
Also, FWIW, the hero of the Battle of Cinco de Mayo, Gen. Zaragoza, was born in what is now Goliad, Texas. There is a replica of his birthplace there at the Presidio La Bahia.
All together now, "It's a small world after all..."

In this country it's a cultural holiday - not a political holiday.
More than just the Irish Americans celebrate St Paddy's Day.
I notice you didn't complain about that.
Why is that, I wonder?
Hmmmm.....
Speaking about dying the whitehouse fountain green... wouldn't it be fun to have a white house "dragon parade" for Chinese New Years? I could see Sasha and Malia and all their school friends making a giant dragon and winding it up and down the white house steps... in and out of the Lincoln bedroom... and then maybe around a few offices or even down to the bowling alley.
I don't see a reason for the President of the United States to celebrate St. Patrick's Day either, unless he's catholic.
Well, you are out of touch - the President (whoever he is) has marked St Paddy's Day for a number of years now.
Actually in Obama's case - he IS of part Irish ancestry.
As I said - it's a cultural holiday.
If you don't want to celebrate it don't - but criticising others who do just makes you look racist.

LOL, as the song goes: "There's no one as Irish as Barack O'bama!"
