Depends on the sex and family background. Two legendary porn actors include Ron Jeremy and Nina Hartley. There's less stigmatism for men than for women due to old school perceptions. Ron started off as school teacher before moving to porn. Nina Hartley was born and raised in ultra-liberal northern California and started off life as a Registered Nurse before moving to porn. Think of porn industry like an offshoot of the entertainment industry. You have reputable studios, directors, producers, and managers who take care of their actors and treat them with respect and dignity. Some high profile porn actors have moved on to operating a management company to act as agents for the actors in the industry, some to directing and producing, and other facets of the industry behind the camera. There are other parts of the industry that aren't so nice,...some even criminal. Any attractive woman willing to perform can get into the industry if they wish. Whether or not they appear in front of the camera is another story. It's harder for guys to get into the industry. It's not merely about their physical shape and size of their manhood. They have to be able to perform in front of a large group of people while taking direction from a director giving instructions and maintain performance. Even then, they still have to be able to act during all this. The two biggest things I'd worry about if a relative was in the industry would be STDs and drug addiction. People in the industry have a harder time having a long term relationship. When a guy finds out a woman is in the industry, she must fight against a potential perception of her being a sex crazed nympho who'll share her man with the women she works with. Another potential problem is the guy will be sexually insecure thinking he'll never be able to compete with the studs she works with on the job and become jealous and or controlling out of fear of losing her to one of the studs. Many of the women in the industry are either bi-sexual or lesbian and women can be even more jealous and controlling than men. Men in the industry have the same problem. Many of the men in the industry are gay or bi. They have another problem though. The large size that can make them a star can be painful to a sexual partner not in the industry.

Today, it's more of an "industry", one that gets a lot more attention, so the possibility of relatives finding out is much more likely than before, but attitudes have changed to where a number of actresses take an "it's my body" attitude, and pretty much flip off what other people think. Still, though, I can't imagine too many members of anyone's family being proud of any relative doing that sort of thing.
Another attitude change is our addiction to $$$. The journey to wealth is ignored as long as the end product is lots of money. Consider: why is JayZ not referenced as a drug dealer although he was one and still raps about it? Because he's wealthy now and that is all that matters.

Some cultures that are not as addicted to wealth do not allow values to take a back seat. Meaning what scenes are allowed differs from nation to nation. Some accept all, while some only accept some. For example in more homogeneous nations, interracial porn is much rarer.

Porn careers rarely end well....... Even standouts like Jenna Jameson had nice career runs, made millions as the queen of porn yet her life isn't great (recent arrests, drug issues, domestic violence etc.).

Currently there is an HIV issue going on in California with a few people recently infected so that might have lifelong after career effects for some.

Usually it starts with a up and coming star, make a few dollars, then get crazier with performances to keep the $'s rolling in, then burnout/has been status, then work the strip club circuit then escorting as "former porn star" and at that point they are pretty used up. This tends to lead to a quicker crash if hard partying/drug use is going on from the beginning. I also think amateur porn has crushed the big studios (guys shooting porn in the street/back alley vs. studio movie productions).

Interesting point about Jay Z but then again Joe Kennedy was an "inside trader" and reported rum runner during prohibition so it has been going on for centuries and I think it is different when the real money is earned through other means (Jay Z never made a million dollars selling drugs).
