People: Madrid. Warmer, more outgoing than Parisians.
Scenery: Paris. Arguably most beautiful city in the world.
Nightlife: Madrid. It comes alive at night, whilst Paris shuts down.
Food: Both excellent. Quality of food slightly higher in Paris, Madrid has cool traditions like Tapas.
Transport: Madrid, both good but Madrid Metro cleaner, AVE goes everywhere.
Weather: Madrid, more varied.
Shopping: Paris more famous as fashion capital, but Madrid probably cheaper.
Diversity: Paris
Parks: Madrid. Parisian parks you can't sit on grass, Retiro is amazing.
Politics: not sure which is more liberal/conservative

Overall: Madrid

French are unfriendly especially to English spoken people but the buildings are amazing. If Munich Germany is on the list then I would pick that over the two choices you have mentioned. If you only speak English then Paris is not a Good place to be, as I tried talking to them in English and almost all of them ignored me. Strasbourg which is also know as petite Paris is more friendly to English spoken people and you are only 45 minutes away from the German birder. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Sorry, but it is Paris I am afraid.

Paris is more like home than Madrid which is far too different and more foreign.

Honestly, I'm a bit biased, but Madrid hands down. The people are friendlier and more welcoming, everything is 1/2 the price, and the weather is better. In regards to food, you can find everything here from French cuisine to American style burger joints.

People Madrid, especially if you don't speak the local language
Scenery Paris
Nightlife Madrid
Food Madrid. Maybe less Michelin *, but more food culture, tapas, different restaurants, and way cheaper.
Transport Madrid
Weather Most of the time Madrid over Paris. Summertime Paris hands down (too hot in Madrid)
Shopping Paris
Diversity Paris
Parks Madrid: and not only Retiro. Casa de Campo, Parque del Capricho...
Politics Crap tie
