I don't know if they really care, I don't think you have to care to just ask, it's called being friendly. Course it would be nice if they were actually interested in you, but chances are, unless they're trying to pick you up you're just another customer to them, at most a pleasant distraction during a dull day.

Have you been to the US? That's the stereotype, but I encountered a lot of people who were downright unpleasant, and I'm sure some are genuinely friendly. You get the fakeness too, but you get that here and a bit in the UK (though less) as well.

The American model is spreading very quickly in most major cities. It's discouraging. I'll never forget the first time, "Jules" knelt on one knee and told us, "I will be your server tonight...I have several specialties tonight that are really yummy".

Yes I went to South Florida. I think in Florida everyone is in a good mood because of the sunshine and the warm weather.

Is that all? Obviously, South Florida is one tiny corner of the US and quite different, so it's hard to really get a good picture. I've been to/through 16 states.

Seriously - those old people are the absolute worst! Look, I'm sorry you're having to work past retirement because your pension is insignificant, and I am really sorry that you had no ambition in life to better your career prospects, but that ain't my problem.

Yeah, some are lovely little things. I wish I could put them all on a farm and let them roam free.
