It should be one of top destination of tourists ... even though it gets prizes year after year as best European destination ... Maybe not being flooded by so many tourists is part of the charm ...
It is in fact a really cool city, welcoming, warm and not expensive I personally like it a lot, it has a romantic touch as well... I worked there and I have really good memories. Moisaics in pavements, tiles in walls, the river, fado, gastronomy... it's awesome!
more cultural festivities? if theres something not lacking i assure you its not that...
should we start with the 1 month of full partying in the streets with the Holy Saints marches?
and much much more ... you can always use the lisbon website to search whats going on culturally at anytime
like the Semana Santa in Spain that is really very big and streets are all closed, it would be good if Lisbon would have something like it too since it's also a Catholic country... Also the throwing of the bulls on the streets like what Montijo and Alcochete have.
They could also spread the carnival every February to Lisbon and make it very big.
Yes there are fiestas in the summer but the fiestas are a little small except for the Sto. Antonio fiesta every June.
I am happy Lisbon doesn't have that sort of events, it is a sophisticated, secular city. It has more than enough events for those looking. People looking for massive events should go somewhere else, it is a city of understatement.
I agree with all 7 points. Especially number 7. I have only been once, but it was a memorable visit and my wife and I wanted around the streets for hours at night and never seemed to get bored at all. Architecturally, its one of the most sophisticated cities I have visited, the attention to detail on all the building and even the streets themselves was impressive.
So many great memories there. From drinking a bottle of wine and listening to Fado in a hidden little Fado house off the tourist track; eating a Prego and washing it down with a Sagres from a random food stand and becoming one of the simplest but best meals I've had in my life and attending a Benfica v. Sporting Lisbon match and people letting off flares after each goal. Just a great city overall.
Also I had the best cup of coffee in my life there, it was so good I can still taste it today.
