Pot, meet kettle.

All nations spy on their own and others' citizens to varying degrees. France is one of the worst offenders actually. Their government has specific line items in their budget for industrial espionage, and attempt to hack into various US companies 24/7. China has only recently passed them in terms of actual traced hack attempts.

You've gotta figure France has a formidable spy technology and network, because they've been dealing with terrorism a LOT longer than the US has, and they've had some spectacular successes at discovering and preventing plane hijacking attempts. Our own security services went to the French to study their system and their files on international terrorist groups after 9/11.

But nobody does it better than America. It is hard to beat the NSA.

I read this article in the italian paper corriere della sera and that article stated that Merkel and Holland were envisioning an actual "european internet" which in all honesty isn't feasible. First of all Europe would have to spend tens of billions of Euros on all new servers and with the current unemployment rate in the euro zone sky (actually make that to Jupiter and beyond) high that money can be well spent elsewhere. Plus I was thinking, If a European leaves Europe for a trip (to the USA for instance) how would they be able to access all their data on their European Network when clearly no information would be sent to America.
Again, completely unfeasible, the fact that the leaders of France and Germany wasted a meeting on such nonsense is yet another slap in the face to Europe's massively unemployed/underemployed (obviously they travel on tax payer euro's).

The US and France have been allies since the US became a nation. Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin couldn't get enough of French women. The US Revolution, WWI, WWII, etc. The US and France love to shoot other Europeans together
