Now in Moscow is relatively warm weather. Severe frosts are over. Always a lot of cars and people. I think it all depends on which district you plan to live.

Then he probably shouldn't be there at the first place: Russia is not for the faint of heart you know))))

I couldn't agree more. But he was bored in Switzerland. And his other choice was Tokyo.

Watch for the panic thread he'll post here in a little over a month. I can't believe he's making this move without learning the language.

I think there are 3 types of residents of Moscow.
1. Cultural. They are well educated, know a little English. Always try to help. If you show them a piece of paper with the address where you want it, chances are they will help you.
2. Not cultural. They do not know English, are unlikely to help. Usually they are not dangerous.
3. Migrants from Central Asia or the Caucasus republics. They do not know English, know a little Russian, and at night they can be dangerous.

If you plan to stay until the next winter, buy warm clothes. This is very important.

He lives in Switzerland, he has warm clothes. But maybe not warm enough...? OP, you can usually buy what you need with cash at the outdoor market. Cool, imported clothes at less than the price you'd pay in the West.

Sometimes several days kept frost -25/-30 degrees Celsius. But only in December or January.

Moscow is a nice atmosphere although it can be very cold.

The people are really nice and welcoming otherwise.
