Dutch people will say its typical and very Dutch to complain all the time about everything. My Spanish boyfriend hardly ever complains about anything. I agree with bale002 that its simply a human trait that some have more of than others.

Yes they complain a lot about the govenrnment, the economy and things like that but they are not really that demanding. Americans complain a lot about customer service and tend to be very demanding.

I don't think complaining is confined to any one ethnic group. It is an individual thing. There are easygoing people and whingers in every nationality.

Yet whenever I complain to a Spaniard about the level of service in a hotel or restaurant, I am usually met with 'No Comprendo', so I suggest you use that whenever your Spanish friend starts moaning or complaining.

Spaniards and other Mediterranean folks are more likely to complain and speak their minds.

French, as well.

Spanish never complain because the the legacy of Francoism lingers on. During Franco nobody complained and nobody spoke their minds out, many years after Francoism things were practically the same. Right now, most Spanish never complain except a very vocal minority that belongs to Unions or Radical Political Organizations, maybe 0.0001 percent of the population. People above certain age never complain.

As to racism and Spanish being racist, people that are looking for racists under every rock will find them everywhere, but suffice to say that non-white Latins, those of Andean or black extraction, are treated much better in Spain that by their own white/largely white elites in their countries.

Spain is the only large country in Western Europe wothout large xenophobic parties. Racist and xenophobic parties practically don't exist. The only country, according to a EEC Study, in which the crisis has not provoked any clash with immigrants at all.

Spain is the most racist country in Europe towards Black people.
They don't complain because there is no black guy in Spain but they are very racist with you if you are black and go there.
