My DH is from Spain & he tends to be very pessimistic, always complaining about something. He says it's the "mente espanol". Keep in mind he is from a pueblo & did not finish his bachillerato (he is trying to pursue a degree here in the USA) I am Latin American & I know many Spaniards don't like Latinos but I refuse to think all Spaniards complain about every little thing? Is it just me???
Please don't be offended, I am not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. In Spain I have been called many things like "negra, moreneta (Catalan), & sudaca" I have also been accused of "trayendo la coca a Espana" bc of my Colombian parentage...is it just me?
Indeed the Spaniards tend to complain a lot for every little thing. In fact it's a very Mediterranean/far southern attitude shared from Beirut to Lisbon.

I have lived in some 15 countries across three continents and five languages.
Human beings complain. Period. Human beings.
Some human beings complain more than others. Individually.
Some human beings are habitual complainers. Individually.
There is no mente español, there is no Mediterranean attitude, complaining is not particular to any cultural group or geographical region.
Human beings complain, it is a common human trait, like many others.
Human beings complain.
To the OP, your problem, apparently, is your husband's individual personality. Perhaps you are not used to it if you had no one in your immediate family who was a habitual complainer.
Actually Spain is the European country with the most optimistic people, along with Italy, Malta, Croatia Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania and the country with the most human quality, unlike all of Europe north of Pyrenees/Alps/Dinaric Alps.
Unless he's from Galicia, I don't understand at all that attitude since Andalusians are the happiest, funniest and most charming people in Europe.

It doesn't matter if he is from a village and he didn't finish the bachillerato I don't get this point.
As some people say half of the world hate and love the other half "medio mundo critica al otro medio" for example I have had the bad xenophobic experiencies with Latin Americans or north Europeans, same situation as you but in the other way around, things just happen.
And about complaining... it depends, we have both sides, some poeple say we never complain and we could have better society if we complained more, other people are like your DH. I don't know which band wins but Spanish socieaty don't usually sue or protest to much from my point of view.

You might have a point here, although I would advise you to keep in mind that being flamboyant and loud does not necessarily rule out a certain tendency to complain.

Of course North Europeans' racism towards the Spaniards and other Mediterranean peoples must be condemned.
