Which part is false? I know very well where the islands are, they have mediterranean features in culture due to the countries they beling, but, they can't be called Mediterranean islands.
It is always somehow arbitrary to geographically associate islands with a continent (a continent is supposed to be a continouss landmass, as such islands are not supposed to be geographically part of any continent, exceptd by their political or cultural belonging to a country part of a specific continent.
There's a word in French I can't recall....Departaments d'outremer?
The native people of the Canary Islands were known as Guanche, but they don't exist anymore even though traces of their DNA is still found not just among Canary Islanders, but also in the American continent wherever received a significant Canary Island migration (mostly Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and the gulf coast of Mexico).
For the articles in Spanish, non-Spanish speakers can use Google Translate or a similar online tool to translate the articles to English or whatever language you dominate best.
By the way, most of the population of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico are direct descendants of Canary Islanders. In Puerto Rico these descendants are often mixed with Spaniards from the peninsula, French, Italian, etc; and in Dominican Republic most are mixed with African blood, in other words the typical mixed race Dominican (together with the whites -most of whom also descend from Canary Islanders- makes up roughly 90% of the country's population) their white proportion in their mixture is more often than not of Canary Island origin.
Also in Cuba huge regions are filled with white and mulatto descendants of Canary Islanders, parts of Venezuela, and in eastern Mexico too along the gulf coast, especially around Veracruz. In Mexico, however, the typical Canary Islander descendant is a mestizo mixed with whatever indigenous population lived there, probably Mayan.
Canarians usually stick to their own and they are very noticeable in Cuba and Venezuela, they are the equivalent in those countries to fiercely racist rednecks.
They form very large communities and cities in those countries, The ones in PR and Dominican Republic have disappeared, and the ones in the US (Louisiana) still live in the mouth of Missisippi and many were assimilated by the Cajuns.
A famous US Canarian, or "Isleno" as called in Cuba, Florida and Louisiana was Leander Perez. Islenos have been living in the US since 1770.

Nope, they are still there, just that now they tend to be mixed because most of the whites that moved to these islands were of Canary origin and that means not only that most of the whites are of Canary origin, but also most of the mixed race people are of partial Canary ancestry. In addition, there are many Canarian cultural aspects that forms the basis of the cultures of these two islands.
Here are two videos showing many of Canary descendants (white and mixed people) in the two islands. In fact, it can even be considered somewhat racist to claim that they "disappeared" in two places where most people have genetic ties to the Canaries and most of their families plus much of their culture is rooted in the traditions of the Canaries, their dialects and religious practices included.
