Italians don't give a heck about their colonial history, since it occurred under the defunct and deprecated Fascist regime, and they are not obsessed with people's race or ethnicity like Americans are.
So no, they don't care if somebody is Ethiopian or from a different African descent.
Nor would they be able to tell by looking at someone if they are from Ethiopia or a different African descent.
Some people probably would speak out about this question.
According to a lot of board members in general Horner Africans are not fully black African but partly White Caucasian (which I do not really believe) plus are looked at as more better looking too, thus why are treated better than other Africans obviously.

I'm sure there are some DNA studies done on Ethiopians or other Horn Africans. A quick search would bring them up and there everyone can get a better picture of the genetic situation in that part of the world.

As an American that lived in Italy decades ago, the Ethiopians knew the language well. Their spoken Italian was superior to other Africans. Many of their children were well assimilated also.

Ethiopians are like some Meds (more like Iberians/Sardinians, Greek Islanders) that is why.

As an Eritrean, I can attest that yes, Eritreans fare better than West African migrants in Italy due to the colonial aspect. Most old school Eritreans speak or understand Italian or Arabic due to political history which explains why they fare better in the Middle East or Italy.
However, in the UK it’s a different story and West Africans fare much better than Eritreans and Ethiopians due to speaking English especially Ghanaians and Nigerians.
Anyone that has at least one or two aspects pinpointing to having European ancestors in general is treated better in Italy and I would say in much of Europe. I think in part it has to do that Italians assume the person must be of partial Italian descent.
In general Ethiopians/Eritreans don't have partial Italian ancestry, but if one is seen in the streets of Naples and you simply have looks to go by, the automatic assumption is that their is some Italian ancestry somewhere in that person.
I would say even someone with a Lionel Ritchie type of looks is treated better in places like Italy than in the USA. In the latter, many people will associate them with Lionel Ritchie and/or assume they are mixed and generally the treatment is from neutral to positive. Many others assume the person is bleaching and those will either make fun of the person, make derogatory comments of the person within earshot of the person, and in general the person goes through a type of social punishment for "trying to be something else instead of being the dark person he was born as," except they were never dark. As light or lighter than you see them is how they were born. This type of discrimination occurs from all types of people including blacks and Hispanics. This element is missing in places like Italy since what most people automatically think is that the person is mixed rather than "a bleaching dark black." Usually, many would have wavy hair which after closer inspection the idea that they are mixed instead of bleaching hits them, but by that time its too late since they already "socially punished him for bleaching." For those that have very nappy hair, tough luck.
The fact that that type of natural look is extremely rare and most people that look like that probably are the "dark black bleaching types" is another reason why this happens. With that said, this is a very USA specific thing. If they go to other countries, Italy included, the treatment is completely different. Sometimes being in another country but most of the hotel clientele where you stay are mostly Americans, you will notice an immediate change in treatment/looks in the hotel from other guests vs how it is outside of the place. Same with popular tourist sights where mosts visitors are Americans, the difference happens as soon as you enter the place. It goes to show that the issue lies with Americans more than any other group. Being a very racially focused society as is the case in the USA probably has something to do with that.
Anyway, even the Lionel Ritchie looking types that are actually mixed are treated much better in Italy thsn in the USA. It may even be a sign of relief to finally go somewhere where for the most part you aren't the center of attention for something that simply happened to you vs you doing something to artificially look like that.

You mean most White Europeans, White British, White Irish, White Anglos and White Jews.
Who would be treated better in mainland Italy.
Except for Mediterranean Europeans (like Canarians, Spaniards, alot of Portuguese, Sardinians, Maltese, some Greeks, Cypriots and Turks) who have not much chance.
Mediterranean Europeans like I said would only have a better chance in Sicily or Sardinia.
Too swarthy for Europe.
Only reason Ethiopians are treated better because of their past with Italy.
