Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetusa Roman site the city was the capital of the Roman province of Dacia between 1st and 3rd century, being abandoned with all the province around the year 273 CE. There is a rich local museum near the archaeological site.
The city has a population of 54,655. Here is one of the four bridges across the Danube in Romania (six if Iron Gates I and II dams are considered bridges).
The Friendship Bridge was built in 1952–1954 between Giurgiu and the Bulgarian city Ruse, situated across the river. The bridge is 2,223 m long and the clearance below is 30 m.
Is a town with 6,990 inhabitants, certified in 1332. The first inhabitants were the Saxons, later replaced by Hungarians and Romanians and in 18th century becoming an Armenian town. In 1447 became the residence of Apafi noble family and the Bethlens too hold a part of the property. The castle was built in 1552 - 1564 and in 1590 the town became the seat of Cetatea de Baltă comitatus.
In 1714 the Austrian emperor gave the town to the Armenians, who will built the impressive Armenian-Catholic Cathedral between 1766-1791, which dominates the settlement.
