And I'm sure the reason for not banning cousin marriages in western countries is not because they don't occur, they do as this list of famous coupled cousins shows, but because is seen as a limitation of freedom.

While in Romania and other strongly Christian countries the banning must have a religious & medical reasoning and not be caused by the high demand for such thing, though I think that in the theoretical absence of such law, the Romanians, as a more primitive people, would show a higher preference for cousin marriages than western nations (but not much higher). And as cousin marriages have been continuously banned in Romania in the last 7-8 centuries (being prohibited by the Orthodox church, which controlled the marriage institution), there is a strong culture against such practice and people would avoid it even only for the rejection from relatives and friends that would follow.
Your post and the UK link prove my point -- legislation is a response to the perceived need to legislate, but it is by no means an indicator of the knowledge that cousin marriage is wrong. By the way, since you brought up the IQ card, I am sure you are aware of the strong link between economic wealth and measured IQ, so picking some economically backwards countries to prove the point that inbreeding creates dumb people is rather flawed. As far as I know, Japan's inbreeding rate is about 48 times that of Croatia, yet they're doing fine in measured IQ. Of course, all else equal, 0% consanguinity is better, but I will choose education and economic development over "preserving our gene pool" every single time.

Inbreeding with cousin marriage is seldom a damage, as inbreeding demands prolonged and continous determined exposure, like as in the Habsburg dynasty. People have too many different genetic markers, so one cousin marriage won't change anything. Damaging inbreeding is usually considered an issue in communities with a total of 500 individuals, and every new contribution to the gene pool lessens the risk. The natives on Sentinel Island in the Indian ocean are most likely severely inbred. Another example is Charles II of Spain, who was the result of Habsburg inbreeding that continued for a couple of hundred of years.

We Finns are one example of a people with very few genetic diversities. But as there has been immigration and new repleshmints of genes since the stone age, so the fact that almost all of us descends from a few thousands of people is trivial. The fact that Finns are more susceptible to adult diseases like diabetes or cardial failures are due to the very few different gene pools. Though part of is cultural as well, as we use more salt and coffee than all other Europeans. Most Europeans descend from 2-4 different populations, while Finns descend from 1-2.

Inbred, no. When more than 500 people decide to do something with their neighbours, the process stops. And it's mostly genetic. We have a programmed sexual dislike towards our relatives, as out genes get messed up with sharing too much of them. One cousin marriage doesn't change the offspring's gene pool enough to be damaging.

It is. Google Charles II of Spain, and you'll see how bad inbredding can be. Read his medical history.

You gotta love genealogical trees like that:

Spoiler

Pros: It isn't that hard to remember all the names of your great-grandparents.
Cons: You get a forehead the size of a football field.

Don't forget the habsburg jaw! The teeth won't fit in your mouth and you're born with one barren testicle. Add to that the extraordinary tongue and all other hereditary diseases.

I'm not sure if the citizens of those countries are aware that it is actually forbidden to marry your own cousin, but since no sane person would even consider that, it doesn't really matter.

Is less antisemitic than Germany or Hungary and neither much anti islamic. In Dobruja we have the oldest Muslim community in Europe, dating from 700-800 years and Romanians and Muslims there live in real fraternity, not only tolerating each other but helping each other, like for example Romanian policemen replacing their Muslim coleagues with job hours during Ramadan etc.

While there is homophobia and hungarophobia extremism in Romania, overall is the most tolerant country in Eastern Europe.

Far right parties or organizations are practically inexistent, with the exception of some minuscule temptatives (Noua Dreaptă and some claimed continuators of the Iron Guard) that are rather religious (homophobe) and nationalist than racist.
