There are dark-haired Dutch people too like Overmars and the actress Famke, you know. There also plenty of people of immigrant descent also living in the Netherlands, from all over the world and the Dutch are friendly, so many people are fluent in the English language. It would be easy to make friends. I am American who has lived in the Netherlands, Belgium and France, never had a problem with them. I am however stocky, 6'5 (197cm), bluish-green eyes, red hair and I was usually mistaken for someone from the British Isles. So all you need is perhaps confidence, good luck!
The Dutch are certainly blonder (and taller) than white americans .. and It's not brown hair you see in England or the US what is the most common in the NL, but rather Darkblond hair (donkerblond)) which is the most common among netherlanders. And many are actually very blond , and of course there are people with darker hair just like anywhere else.

The actress famke would among 10% darker percentile among ethnic dutch people, most people who visited amsterdam didnt see real dutch people.. go to smaller cities and you will see what real ethnic dutch look like, they are quite distinctive compared to other europeans I'd say, unlike other groups like belgians who tend to look more like pan-european... as if they could be from anywhere else in western europe.

You are talking about Middle America, many people in the East Coast, Newyorkers, feel more at home in Europe than in Middle America. For them, Middle America is just like a foreign country.
