If that's the case, I find that hugely disappointing and wouldn't want to live in Europe, since I find Americans on the whole are decidedly unfriendly and cynical. If Europe is even worse, I wouldn't want to be a part of it.

Lovely, we get to talk about Americans again on the Europe forum.
Anyways, the same applies to all of these many USA vs Europe threads. The USA is a huge nation with a ton of variation, and Europe is a continent with a huge variation.
By looking at your posts, it looks like you post a lot in Portland, Canada, Madison, New England etc. In short, all of those places known for more colder interactions between each other. The Portland Freeze/Seattle Freeze - well-known for their awkward or non-existent lack of interaction with each other. Plus, you have New England/New York known for taking the 'superficial pleasantries' out of conversations with strangers, etc.
Cynical is certainly a trait you'd find in both the Pacific Northwest and the East Coast. In Europe, I find Brits to be most cynical. Being cynical is not so common at all throughout most of the southern states or continental Europe though.
Go to Texas, they are well-known for being friendly. Plus they'll fit your second characteristic, being they have a seeming lack of cynicism (take many things at face value only, and being a bit perplexed by northern/yankee cynicism).

I already thought this, but after reading this I'm Shure. It's a climate thing. Cold weather and lots of rain makes a person grumpy. No matter if it's in the US or EU
You wanna meet friendly and outgoing Europeans, go to the South.

why must everything be compared to europeans?
Americans are more open to dialogue, europeans are colder... DIFFERENT CULTURES, DIFFERENT PEOPLE, DIFFERENT WAYS
must everything about Americans be compared to Europeans?
Slavic look cold but are quite friendly once they know you
Italians are extravagant and loud, so are Spanish
French are a bit snobby and extravagant
British are more proper and interact with you dictated by personal rules
Dutch are kind standoffish, while Belgians are much more open
Scandinavians are weird, and a bit introverted
Greeks are friendly, warm, so are the Portuguese
NOT ALL EUROPEANS ARE THE SAME
Americans fall somewhere between the proper attitude of the British, and the friendly loud extravagant way of the spanish!
I fully agree with this. You might add the Dutch are rude and hostile and Americans are generally friendly in personal interactions but that friendliness is mostly not genuine. Once you deal with them in professional/business matters they are just vicious.
