I was wondering if anyone can tell me what they may know about the lifestyle in Funchal? I've searched a few posts, but it seems most people were just visitors. I'm going to be doing a study abroad there this coming January and would like to know more about what it's like to live there for an extended period of time.
Any information about the culture, demographics, food, weather systems, recreational activities, or anything else you can think of would be great. If you have visited the island for a vacation or something feel free to chime in and give your impressions as well.
I guess to be more specific...Portugal is well-known to have some of the most strictest laws against hiring anyone from outside of the EU. While much of the EU has this, Portugal laws make it even harder.
I'm a bit curious if Madeira and the Azores for that matter...and come to think of it, even the Canary Islands of Spain...are at all immune from that? I mean, I'd imagine ALL of them would make it hard for non-EU people to be legally employed, I just wonder if Madeira/Azores might somehow drop the added Portuguese Law restrictions from the EU restrictions a bit..(which I imagine is something I wouldn't be able to get answered here)...but on the off-chance someone might know, I'll inquire anyway

As far as I can see, there is no difference. SEF covers all Portuguese territory, not just the mainland. Have a look at the website, it's Portugal's border and immigration agency
If I can attach another inquiry to this, as I'm equally interested in this region...
What does it mean "two autonomous Regions of Portugal?" Does it mean exempt from Portugal laws or EU laws? What does that mean exactly?
No. It doesn't mean much actually I believe it gives them leverage on making local fiscal decisions. Madeira and the Azores are fully integrated into the EU and Portugal.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread!
All my questions have been answered.
Anyone got anything for the OP? I'm quite a bit curious as to the answers as well.
